EPA spill: 'We looked at the river and we cried'
CNN ^ | August 11, 2015 | Dana Ford and Ed Payne

From his backyard in Durango, Colorado, Tom Bartles can see the Animas River, which was stained an unnatural orange.

The Environmental Protection Agency accidentally released millions of gallons of pollutants into the water last week, turning the typically blue water to the color of mustard.

"Everybody in town knew it was coming. It was hard to wake up in the morning and see an orange river," Bartles, 52, told CNN. "Many of the locals in this region are probably going to experience a certain level of mourning."

Officials said they believe the spill carried metals, mainly iron, zinc and copper, into a creek that feeds into the Animas.

Wednesday's spill caused a spike in concentrations of total and dissolved metals in the water, the EPA said. It's unclear exactly what effect that will have.

I so agree... People need to be made “whole” again directly out of the pockets of the EPA!

They at can start by selling off body organs.

Eliminate the EPA and enslave all its workers.

Agree.
Make them clean it up. Then jail them.

This should be the top story instead of Kelly & Trump.
Guess the phony “war on women” is more important.

To state the obvious ‘incompetence’ would not be saying much. Is there no one in DC any longer who has brains and knows how to use them? Chances are, the ‘woman’ (?) has no knowledge of how to use an automatic washing machine. The only water she has shaken hands with is that mixed in the glass with her bourbon.

This should be investigated and EPA and everybody involved including the upper-crust should help pat a $135K per affected person until this river is pristine again.

Good for us, good for EPA thugocracy!!

I've always said govt does more damage by accident than all of us do on purpose!

They have probably caused more pollution than they have stopped with their economy killing regulations.

I thought it was the EPA pukes who caused the spill in the first place - leave a liberal to do a job and that liberal will always screw it up royally and then blame others for the damage done.

According to the EPA, the spill occurred when one of its teams was using heavy equipment to enter the Gold King Mine, a suspended mine north of Durango. Instead of entering the mine and beginning the process of pumping and treating the contaminated water inside as planned, the team accidentally caused it to flow into the nearby Animas.

The EPA employees are so incompetent they don't notice or don't care that they were dumping so much waste into a river that they turned it bright orange.

What will happen as punishment? Nothing. meanwhile, if you as a homeowner water your own lawn the wrong way, the EPA will drop an anvil on you and destroy you financially.
