Donald Trump may soon do what Republican leaders have been asking the billionaire candidate to do -- pledge not to run as an independent candidate for president, a senior Trump adviser told ABC News.

Trump refused to take that pledge at the start of Thursday's GOP debate but is now seriously considering promising not to run as an independent if he does not win the Republican nomination, the adviser said.

Don’t do it. Don’t take that pledge. Keep the GOPe squirming.

I suspect he will take the pledge under likely to be unspecified terms and then if he wants to run independent will claim the unspecified terms were broken.

Won’t matter. They’ll still stab you in the back, just like they do to their voters.

Pledges are meaningless. Politicians violate them all the time.

I just wish that the three Fox moderators would apologize for acting like political hacks. This could all be over with by now.

If I understand he will only pledge not to run as a third party candidate. Nothing is said about supporting the nominee.

TRUMP : “Yes, I promise not to run as an independent” (crossing fingers at the back with one hand)

GOP e : “Then we promise not to destroy you” (crossing fingers at the back with one hand)

The first candidate that, after being asked to “raise their hand”, tells the moderator to shove it, gets my vote.

Sore loser laws box him in pretty soon anyway. The pledge that he won't take is "I will support the GOP nominee."

Another rhetorical dynamic is the GOP puppet masters trying to get Trump off the stage. That is harder to do if Trump has pledged to not go third party, regardless of whether it's the pledge or the law that prevents him from going third party.

That should be true of anyone cheated by the party. Chris McDaniel, if he’d had the money should have run 3rd party. Whasername in Alaska did and she wasn’t even cheated.
If you’re cheated and have the means then shove it down their throats.

“Donald Trump may soon do what Republican leaders have been asking the billionaire candidate to do — pledge not to run as an independent candidate for president, a senior Trump adviser told ABC News.”

Dumb move if he does that. Whoever gave him that advice is either GOPe or Rat, but I repeat myself. The only thing keeping Trump in this race is his disdain for the establishment. The minute he signs that pledge he becomes the establishment. And at that point he is worthless as a candidate.
