Donald Trump may soon do what Republican leaders have been asking the billionaire candidate to do -- pledge not to run as an independent candidate for president, a senior Trump adviser told ABC News.
Trump refused to take that pledge at the start of Thursday's GOP debate but is now seriously considering promising not to run as an independent if he does not win the Republican nomination, the adviser said.

? Which is exactly what conservatives shouldn’t want. Political favors.
Folks need to Quit reviling Trump for using the vehicles made readily available, AND ENCOURAGED, by these sacred politicians who are now mad he is telling the world they are all bought and paid for....
You have a good point about the effect of winning a primary vs. losing one. Likely unplowed legal ground.
Just bumped into this one: Trump could run afoul of Michigan's sore loser law. It puts a deadline on bailing out of the GOP, of December.
No, that is 100% entirely incorrect. Conservatives are simply sick and tired of getting screwed by the less than perfect candidates they DO vote for. Where were you for the 2010 and 2014 elections? Supposedly, Conservatives "won". But you couldn't tell that by the actions of the elected elite. What we ARE saying is, NO MORE. The GOP is dead. These are the last gasps of a traitorous party's demise.
Everyone NEEDS to understand that the ONLY way to be a SUCCESSFUL business person in today’s America is to GREASE THE PALMS of these SLIMY politicians!!!!! I firmly believe Trump would much rather KEEP his money than hand it over to some slime ball to get his permits through, ect. ect. ect.!!!!!! Trump is just stating what we ALL know to be true WE don’t count ANY MORE!!!! if you’ve got the MONEY you’ve got these slime balls ears!!!!! Plain and simple!!!!!!
He is financially giving up more than he will gain as President. Why would he do that? The Dem/Rep dichotomy is BS. There is the ruling class and then the rest of us.
The author of the piece I linked to has posted another article today that better explains what is going on.
To each their own. Good luck with him.
dont let the gop tell you what to do ...they are all turncoats
if you take the pledge you have been bought by the gop..
I’m talking about Presidential elections. As far as I know, there weren’t any in 2010 or 2014. Local and State elections are great for demanding officials that are in line with your personal viewpoints. But Presidential elections are open to over 300 million people. Trying to elect someone who’s not on the spectrum where most would place themselves on that spectrum is silly.
This whole “Pledge” thing is ridiculous..what are they going to make him do, sign his name with blood?
You’re right. The pledge thing is ridiculous. It’s really a confession - the person we’re planning to nominate is so unpalatable that we must insist that you endorse him now before we you tell you who he is.
The whole pledge thing sounds so, 3rd grade..Like the election can’t continue unless every candidate promises(Pinky promises) to support the winner. If I were running against these guys I would only say I would 100 percent support Cruz, Trump, Carson(I thought he did really well) and thats it..the other guys, not really impressed with at all..so what are they going to do, BOO me off the stage, go to my house with pitchforks demanding I support the winning candidate
If each and every Kamikaze Conservative makes the same decision, it will not be noticed be the "ratings" apparatus. The surge to FOX News by many of the newcomers in those 24 million viewers will more than cover your petty protest.
Far better to keep your friends close and your enemies even closer. Burying your head in the ground will not accomplish much more than getting dirt in your nose.
TRUMP : Yes, I promise not to run as an independent (crossing fingers at the back with one hand)
GOP e : Then we promise not to destroy you (crossing fingers at the back with BOTH HANDS)
Just trying to make it more true.
If my enemy is a vampire I do not want to keep him close. Fox makes money every time I tune in. So other then tonight for Greta I will be tuning in much less. Maybe Greta and maybe Hannity. No way Kelly.
McCain received more votes than Romney because of such shallow thinking. Obama won twice because of the folks that stayed home because GOP candidates were not pure enough or of the wrong religion. Liberals just love such fools.
Successful politics is about the art of compromise. Reagan was a master at that. He accomplished all that could be accomplished and didn't waste effort on useless and/or unwinable causes.
The Moderators are all Democrats, you think the bimbos are Faux are Republicans? HA! I got some swampland in Florida to sell you.
I guess you missed this in my comment so I will repeat it for you:
“My one opinion and refusal to watch, however small, is joined by thousands and thousands of others who will make the same decision. This, hopefully, will teach Fox some kind of lesson. If it doesnt, then the Devil and Liberals can take them.”
Typical Lib-think equates separating from the herd as Kamikaze. Perhaps, to aid reading comprehension, I should reiterate that; as far as I’m concerned, Fox News can go to “ell! Be careful that in your learning about the “enemy” that you leave time for the truth. It’s going to be mighty hard to come by. By the way, ever heard of the Dixie Chicks? It wouldn’t be at all surprising if you haven’t.
I predict his poll numbers will drop like a rock if he pledges not to run as a third party candidate. Now that people want him to. But because by not promising he’s keeping the republicans squirming. If he makes the pledge, he’s doomed earlier than I’d like to see him doomed.
