The Fox News debate moderators treated Donald Trump like any other presidential candidate. They pressed him to explain past statements including his comments on Mexican immigrants and his misogynistic rhetoric. They queried him on policy flip-flops (e.g., on single-payer healthcare, on abortion) and on his financial support for Democrats.
Trump and his supporters then spent a good deal of Friday bellyaching that Fox had been too tough on him. He crudely insulted Megyn Kelly. He whined, I think the questions to me and thats why Im so honored the questions to me were much tougher than the questions to anybody else. Actually, they werent. Trumps defenders deep in the heart of the right-wing echo chamber were incensed Trump would be asked to defend his record and egregious language. For a group that dishes it out unmercifully to every insufficiently conservative Republican and to all liberals, they sure seem squeamish when their pet candidate is on the receiving end.
It is wrong to say he was treated more harshly than other candidates. Jeb Bush got grilled on Common Core and immigration; Ohio Gov. John Kasich had to explain his stance on Medicaid expansion; Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker was asked about his 180 on comprehensive immigration reform; and, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) was pressed to explain how he could be president when he cant even get along with the GOP Senate colleagues. But unlike these other candidates Trump whined during the debate. (What I say is what I say. And honestly Megyn, if you dont like it, Im sorry. Ive been very nice to you, although I could probably maybe not be, based on the way you have treated me.)
Later on Friday Trump went a tick too far even for the right wing. The Post reported:

Bully hasn’t worked, so now on to calling him a crybaby. I have news for them - crybaby ain’t going to do it either.
He’s actually a complete jerk and no GOPer. His opinions are leftist and populist, and he picked the GOP as a vehicle for his ego because he knows he can get away with it.
I have my doubts also on some issues, but I know that there is no one else who stands a chance to bring down the entrenched corrupt political cabal - absolutely no one. The cabal is raping and destroying this country like the two or three big money families have done in Greece. The same is happening to this country and Trump knows it. We have not had a candidate like Trump in our lifetime and likely never will again. Someone who is exceedingly well known, a brass balls leader, filthy rich, and willing to throw it all in the ring to win. As I see it, this may be the one and only opportunity to bust up the cabal, which is much more important than any political issue, issues which must take second place to the big gorilla in the room. Remember, we now have a totally corrupt Uniparty running this country in Washington. Every single candidate in both political parties, other than Trump, is financed by, bought out, and controlled by big money financiers and you can stake your life on that.
The left and the GOPe are relentless in their search for something that has traction. The left and the GOPe are getting repetitious and tedious by crying "Wolf" too many times in their as yet fruitless search.
They have lost the ability to rationally discuss, write about, analyze the substance of Trump's message. That is not new, but we would like to see actual substance in political writing.
The "status quo" has got to go!
Jennifer is incorrect - Trump was asked personal questions, time after time, while the others were asked policy questions. EG... 75 mins into the debate Chris Wallace said now lets discuss the economy (75 minutes before we have the economy?). He turned to Trump and asked him about some Trump SPV’s that filed for Bankruptcy. What’s that have to do with national economic policy? Trump tried to explain that it’s not possible to do hundreds of deals without some mistakes. He never got a chance to explain an economic vision instead he was defending 4 SPV bankruptcy filings. Trump tried to explain that the debts were held by hedge funds, “killers” as he described them. Wallace didn’t even understand the answer and I’m sure most of the audience didn’t either. The question didn’t elicit anything save the embarrassment of Trump, And it didn’t give a clue as to what Trump might like to try to regenerate the economic growth we need to fund this absurdly large government - like 8 years of zero% capital gains or something like that.
We’ve determined that Jennifer Rubin is about as GOP/right/cjservative as Bill DiBlasio....now we’re just trying to peg her maturity level at age 12 or 13.
Sorry, forgot one thing. Warren Buffet has a lot more than 4 bankruptcy filings over the years in the companies he dominates. Business bankruptcies are a strategy, its not the same thing as personal bankruptcy.
You are spot on and then the bell rang and that finished his chance to address the economy. Everyone knows the response time was wholly inadequate to even get past the personal attack. The moderators would rambled on forever and then hold the candidates to the clock.
Hey, Jenny, you got blood coming out of your... whatever.
Amen to all you said. This is WE THE PEOPLE against the corrupt political cabal and it takes money, perseverance and a street fighter like Trump to click “undo..” In 2012 Romney ran ads in Florida many months ahead of the election bashing our guys. Our guys did not have the money to compete with that and Romney avoided all consevative talk shows in Florida except Hannity radio show. Trump will be all over the place blitzing the airwaves and he has the money to compete. This very morning he is on the Today show at 7am and Morning Joe at 7:20. Trump knows people on both sides of the aisle and can make it happen.
Mygosh, I just can't recall Romney getting hostile questions about that in debates. Must be losing my memory.
I assume they’re trying to ruin him with independents because his core support is not fading.
Megyn & Trump sucked all the air out of the room.
The fact that Trump is being attacked so relentlessly by the left and GOP establishment tells me everything I need to know for now. Trump is upsetting the apple cart, and those in power don’t like it. Why on earth should anyone support a go-along, get-along candidate akin to Boehner or McConnell?
Ted Cruz is the most conservative candidate, but he must step up his game if he hopes to win. The GOP-e doesn’t want Cruz as the nominee either, but he hasn’t yet shown that he can fight like Trump to wrest away control from the party apparatchik.
The GOP-e wants someone in the uniparty tradition, such as Jeb! Anyone not of that ilk will be shut out.
no surprise there...

I think Cruz is pacing himself to prevent overexposure burnout. We’re already starting to see a little of that with Trump who the press rambles on about constantly. If you watched Cruz for anytime now, you know he’s a strategist and is calculating. I believe he will surge when its time.
The Washington Compost has a Right Turn blog. Sounds suspicious.
