In this post, I'm asking a serious set of questions about Mr. Trump. I'm not doing so to put him in a bad light, nor a good one.
It's really very simple. Donald Trump is an American political phenomenon. I, and others, are trying to understand why?
I am not posting this to be positive or negative regarding Mr. Trump. I'm simply asking some questions that are certain to be asked later in any campaign. My intention here is not to start some pro or anti-Trump harangues, but rather to get some serious answers to some serious questions. If anyone wants to get into any flame war regarding Mr. Trump, so be it, but I'm not going to waste my time not Jim's bandwidth getting into some long-winded debate.
I'm simply asking questions, questions I think American voters will want answers to. If anyone objects to the questions, I'd remind them of the old San Donaldson line that said, "When someone objects to your questions, what they're really upset about is the fact that you might learn the their answers to your question."
Also, one final request. Please do not generalize with just one "Trump is Great," or "Trump Stinks" answer.
Thank you for your time spent answering these questions.
#1: Donald Trump is a 21st Century political phenomenon. Why is that so?
#2: If you like Donald Trump, or dislike him, why? (Please be specific.)
3: Forgetting about demeanor and delivery, what Conservative positions/platforms does Mr. Trump have that you like the most.
4: Forgetting about demeanor and delivery, what positions does Mr. Trump have that you like the least?
5: There are other strong Conservatives in the race for the nomination, for example Senator Cruz and Governor Huckabee. Which Trump position or positions are more Conservative than the Senator or Governor? (Again, please stay away from the demeanor or style of delivery, but rather stick to specific policies.)
6: Mt Trump espoused some strong Conservative positions in the debate. Which was most important to you?
6: Mr. Trump has espoused some very liberal policies in the past, especially one that are objectionable to Conservatives. Which of those bothers you the most?
7: Mr. Trump has espoused some very liberal policies in the past, especially one that are objectionable to Conservatives. How sure are you that he is simply not engaging in the political trick of telling the audience what he thinks they want to hear, and why are you sure/unsure about that?
8: Like many politicians, when pressed, Mr. Trunp seemed to have few specifics about his accusations or plans. Does that bother you and why?
9: Mr. Trump has touched a nerve in Americans who feel disenfranchised. If elected, how would he turn that into actual improvement for all Americans, as opposed to simply more angry Americans.
10: In his books, Mr. Trump says he favors saying and doing anything to get an advantage in a business deal. Would that work for him as President?
11: In what some have called vicious personally attacks, Mr. Trump has gone after people who do not agree with him. If President, would that work in DC, or are they simply Sol Alinsky tactics, and if so, would they would work as President, and how?
12: A 3d party candidate would split the Right vote and hand the election to the Democrats. Should Trump run as a 3d Party candidate if he does not get the Republican nomination?
13: Did your opinion of Trump increase or decrease as a result of the debate?
14: Could you please list the leading candidates, ranking them from most Conservative to most Liberal?
15: Assuming Mt. Trump gets the Republican nomination, how would you advise him to attack Hillary Clinton in the general election.
Thank you for your input to this.
The idea that Hillary would be better than Jeb Bush is unbelievable. A number of so called conservatives stayed home because they didnt like Romney and Obama got a second term.
Many of us have taken the stand that it is better to raise a descent Phoenix from the ashes than to keep putting ineffective bandages on the one we have. Now, Serious surgery would be a different matter. That would be Trump or Cruze.
But I’m not voting for a bandaid on a compound fracture. And that is what we have - at the least.
Stop feeding the troll. No doubt this clown is doing opposition research.
I wont take up the space to answer your questions individually, so I will just give you my opinion.
1: Is Trump a conservative? Don’t know, don’t really care.
2: Conservative or not, he is saying the things that need to be said about Illegal Immigration, US/Foreign Trade, US/Foreign Policy, Political Correctness and the horrible direction that Democrats are taking the nation.
3: The RNC has not given Conservatives a decent candidate since Reagan left office (and they didn’t want us to have Reagan), they keep putting their PC, DC elite, petty political crooks on the ballot and we are sick and tired of it.
4: Ted Cruz is the candidate of my choice, NOT ANY of the UNIPARTY candidates that will be pushed by the RNC.
5: If the RNC forces a non-conservative on me this time around; I will vote third party, even if that means (shudder) Trump.
I have been a Republican since 1968; but I took my OATH to the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES, not the republican party.
As far as I am concerned; the Democrat Party, the Republican Party, the RNC, the DNC are those people and organizations that would be considered DOMESTIC ENEMIES within the words and meaning of the oath I took so many years ago.
There’s another thing about Trump. He’s the only one IMO that will beat Hillary.
However, if Hillary doesn’t run, it’s possible it could be a more thoughtful presidential race because Sanders seems to try to appeal to reason, although socialism is utterly irrational and an utter historic failure. One has to ask, could Cruz win the Presidency over Sanders?
I don’t know, but right now Cruz has his hands full with the GOP nomination. Most likely, a Trump/Cruz ticket could be helpful in restoring our country.
YES, Bush is just OBUNGHOLE LITE.
Honestly, Trump has said so very little about his proposed policies or how he would govern, I have no idea if any of those things would have happened under a President Trump. I do know he’s held many dangerous and very liberal positions in the past and very few people ever experience a Road to Damascus conversion. I think he is a faux conservative in many areas and I am not ready to trust a “You have to elect me before you’ll discover how I’ll govern” candidate.
Cruz/Palin would be a dream team, but I would settle for a Cruz/ Fiorina match up also.
#1: Donald Trump is a 21st Century political phenomenon. Why is that so?
As a businessman, he has recognized a need in the marketplace, and worked to fill that need. In this case, politics.
#2: If you like Donald Trump, or dislike him, why? (Please be specific.)
I like him. He is stirring up the establishment which needs shaking. They were handed victories in 2010 and 2014, and then done nothing with them. Yes. I realize Obama would veto, but at least do something to differentiate from the left.
3: Forgetting about demeanor and delivery, what Conservative positions/platforms does Mr. Trump have that you like the most.
I like a most of what he says now. It is what he has said in the past that worries me. A Lot!
4: Forgetting about demeanor and delivery, what positions does Mr. Trump have that you like the least?
His current position or historical?
5: There are other strong Conservatives in the race for the nomination, for example Senator Cruz and Governor Huckabee. Which Trump position or positions are more Conservative than the Senator or Governor? (Again, please stay away from the demeanor or style of delivery, but rather stick to specific policies.)
Out of the cast of thousands, there are really only a couple of conservatives. Cruz, Jindal, Rubio are the most with Cruz far in the lead. https://www.conservativereview.com/2016-Presidential-Candidates
In reading their assessment, I tend to agree.
6: Mr. Trump has espoused some very liberal policies in the past, especially one that are objectionable to Conservatives. Which of those bothers you the most?
All of them. I recognize as time passes, people gain new perspectives and change opinions. But EVERYTHING? This is what would likely keep me from casting a vote for him.
7: Mr. Trump has espoused some very liberal policies in the past, especially one that are objectionable to Conservatives. How sure are you that he is simply not engaging in the political trick of telling the audience what he thinks they want to hear, and why are you sure/unsure about that?
Continue from #6. I am NOT. During the debate, he said that he contributes to everybody. Then, if he needs something, he picks up the phone. He is a businessman. A very successful one. He sees an obstacle and removes it or finds a way around it.
8: Like many politicians, when pressed, Mr. Trump seemed to have few specifics about his accusations or plans. Does that bother you and why?
Very much so, but typical politispeak. Tell people what they want to hear. Don’t bother with details since We the People really are too stupid to know the difference. (Sorry, that is people in general. Not those few who look past the lamestream media for info
9: Mr. Trump has touched a nerve in Americans who feel disenfranchised. If elected, how would he turn that into actual improvement for all Americans, as opposed to simply more angry Americans.
Unknown. How much is bravado and BS and how much is real. I would prefer to stick with someone who has a track record like Cruz than to bet on Hope and Change. We got that now.
10: In his books, Mr. Trump says he favors saying and doing anything to get an advantage in a business deal. Would that work for him as President?
Probably in some cases. But, the say anything is what worries me. In the past he has been left. Now, he has had a miraculous epiphany and has seen the error of his ways and now leans right. I suppose possible, but too much of a gamble for me.
11: In what some have called vicious personally attacks, Mr. Trump has gone after people who do not agree with him. If President, would that work in DC, or are they simply Sol Alinsky tactics, and if so, would they would work as President, and how?
See Obama. $#&& yes they work. He raises his voice and Republicans cower in the corner peeing themselves.
12: A 3d party candidate would split the Right vote and hand the election to the Democrats. Should Trump run as a 3d Party candidate if he does not get the Republican nomination?
If he does, it would likely be the final coffin in the USA. Sadly, it may be the only way to remove the establishment Republicans head from their collective butts.
13: Did your opinion of Trump increase or decrease as a result of the debate?
Neither. Just confirmed my fears.
14: Could you please list the leading candidates, ranking them from most Conservative to most Liberal?
From https://www.conservativereview.com/2016-Presidential-Candidates wich I strongly agree with the assesment and methodology. Differentiation between close results are stances on particular issues of interest to me.
Cruz
Jindal
Rubio
Paul
Perry
Trump
Carson
Walker
Huckabee
Santorum
Kasich
Christie
Bush
Fiorina
15: Assuming Mt. Trump gets the Republican nomination, how would you advise him to attack Hillary Clinton in the general election.
Whoever needs to stick with what concerns the people. Tight now that is economy and jobs and the size of gov per Gallup.
I don’t need to justify my support for Trump to you or anyone.
There’s zero doubt Trump has tapped into deeply felt betrayal by GOPe. We first the the House and it’s “we’ll right this ship as soon as we take the Senate.” We take the Senate and its “Well right this ship as soon as we recapture the Oval Office.” People are thoroughly sick of the uniparty and Trump is seen as the antidote. He may be a good protagonist now, but I think he is very dangerous because he has zero voting history to inspect and consider. To paraphrase Churchill, “He is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.”
#11 Do you mean vicious attacks like this,
“And he charged that Republicans who have vowed to defeat the agreement were making “common cause” with hardliners in Iran.”
This comment made by our libleler in chief.
EF you crystal fairy and your phony questionair.
You as I and Cruz understand that the Constitution is a document that is mostly limitations on the power of the Federal Government. In fact the majority of the spending by the Federal Government is totally outside the authority granted by the Constitution.
The Constitution is the only thing between us and tyranny imposed by our own Federal Government. We do not need new laws, we need a government that operates within its clearly defined limits as stated in the Constitution.
If Madison, Washington, Jay, Hamilton and Jefferson were alive today, they would be leading armed revolution against the Federal Government. We went to war against England opposing precisely what is now being imposed by Washington against the free and independent individual states.
Dont know about others here but I am not interested in helping out the opposition.
You may be on to something here.
In the past, FR didn't see this type of activity until closer to the actual election (the "I really, really only care about beating those awful Democrats, so I need to 'Understand' things better .... things that all of 'Us' Conservatives think about [enter Candidate's name] .... type of surveys").
With all the Primaries moved forward, I guess it was inevitable that this activity would start earlier on FR as well.
I have never heard of a Carly Fiorona.
As for the ludicrous inclusion of lying (and one might as well include engaging the Mafia etc. if literal “everything” is meant) the burden of documentation is on you.
If he really was caught in any substantive dishonesty in his business dealings he wouldn’t be touring the country right now. He’d be in jail.
Sorry, but OPPO research polls five or ten thousand voters, mostly MOR, not a few dozen hard right like us or hard leftists.
Well said
