Graham says Trump is inflicting permanent damage on GOP, urges party leaders to stop ‘tiptoeing’

Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) said Saturday that fellow presidential candidate Donald Trump's derogatory commentary has begun inflicting permanent and possibly fatal damage to the Republican Party brand and urged GOP leaders to stop "tiptoeing" around the billionaire businessman and to confront him directly and unequivocally.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Graham said Trump's personal attacks on Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly after she questioned him in Thursday night's primary debate were "an affront to all women" and undermine the Republican Party's urgent mission to appeal to more women voters.

“I think we’ve crossed that Rubicon, where his behavior becomes about us, not just him," Graham said. "I hope the party leadership will push hard. I hope that those seeking the nomination to be the standard bearer will unequivocally reject this. People gave Mr. Trump a pass on the [debate] stage. I understand that to a point, but we’ve crossed a line here that can’t be ignored. There can be no more tiptoeing around this.”

*snip*

In Thursday's debate, Trump memorably refused to vow to support the eventual nominee, saying he wanted to keep his "leverage."

But Graham said GOP leaders need to "take the leverage away and not be afraid to speak honestly and directly about this problem."

He doesn’t mind the damage Boehner has done.

"Everything is being placed in jeopardy by the antics of Mr. Trump and we’re at a crossroads as a party," Graham said.

That's true and they are running scared...They intend to propose the same meaningless policies they have been proposing for decades...The same hollow promises we have been hearing forever...

Now they are going to circle the wagons and attack Trump because they can't defend the status quo...Their exposure by Cruz and Trump is going to render them obsolete...Going to get interesting...

The private good old boy club is being threatened and by God we’d better do something about it before it’s too late.

You’re not wrong, and from my observation, Lindsey didn’t seem to care much when he and McCain were doing irreparable harm to the Republican party.

A considerable portion of my anger at the party today, is a result of it’s love of the McCain/Kennedy Immigration Reform Bill before the Senate of the United States of America.

Lindsey can spare me his feigned concern for the nation. He has none whatsoever.

He’s probably right. But who, besides the lifetime party aparat cares a fig about the GOP “Brand”. If they won’t stand for a secure border, limited government, a strong national defense and fiscal sanity, if they insist, in other words, on being “Democrat lite”, who needs ‘em?

The GOP Party brand was destroyed long before Trump ever came on the scene.

Just look at what the Lindsay Graham's in D.C. have done for decades.

Lawless violent borders, thousands of dead and injured innocent American victims, a disastrous economy, debt piled up to the lunar surface, with foreign/trade policies benefiting everyone but Americans.

These political geniuses didn't see this coming?

I think there is certainly a fair share of buyer’s remorse on the libtard side (those who were suckered twice), perhaps even enough that they’d be willing to vote that ‘3rd’ party ticket. It would be easier for those sorts to go 3rd than make the complete jump and vote for what they have always seen as the enemy. Likewise, many of the disgruntled R’s would find it far easier to vote 3rd than sitting at home or voting libtard IF somehow the GOPe manage to get ‘their guy’ on the ticket yet again.

Without checking I am pretty sure every post before mine is going to say this: Graham and friends have done far more damage that Trump could ever do.

The “GOP Brand??”

Ha! The GOP brand has been dirt to me, ever since they backstabbed Palin. And Romney/Boehner/McConnell certainly hasn’t altered that assessment.

Nothing Trump can do could sully the GOP brand, because it’s already sullied to the darkest depths.

That’s because Linda Grahamnesty WANTS Trump to run as an Indy on a Third Party Ticket which would probably give the keys to the White House to Hillary.

Ya know, you nailed it dead on perfectly with that statement! They absolutely hate us ‘commoners’. At first, when we started showing our dissatisfaction, organizing the TEA party and having public events to express such, the GOPe didn’t know what to make of it. This had never happened before. At first, they thought it was a good thing, and many of them thought they could channel our frustration by seemingly joining us. But their attendance at OUR events quickly revealed that many/most of them were simply wearing a costume: wrapping themselves in the American flag in an attempt to gain our votes. Once they realized we were not falling for it, they started to resent us. In their minds they started thinking “okay folks, you’ve had your little protests. Now it’s time to get back to business and let us adults tell you what to do.” Now, I sincerely believe that many/most of them actually hate us. They think, no, they KNOW they are special and that we should know better, getting back to being thankful for all they do for us. They are sociopaths, BOTH illusionary ‘sides’ of the aisle. Likewise, they HATE people like Cruz, because he is the closest a politician can come to being the real deal in aligning with genuine patriots. They HATE Trump as well, because regardless of all the social issues, he does believe that America is “great”, and genuinely wants to steer the country back on to a course that makes us exceptional, which is exactly what the globalist cartel in DC doesn’t want.
