CENTENNIAL, Colo. -- It took almost three years for the case to reach trial. That trial played out over the course of three months. The jury needed just 6.5 hours to render a verdict. James Holmes has been sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

Tom... One or more jurors may have lied when the judge asked them if they could impose the death penalty if Holmes was found guilty of first degree murder.
My grand daughter was murdered in March 1993. One juror lied when the judge her the same question. She wouldn’t agree to first degree murder so she wouldn’t have to vote for the death penalty.
Problem is there’s no remedy for this misbehavoir.
A CO I know once described such as a “cleaner, more sanitary version of hell”.
Works for me.
Pussies.
Carefully planned murders is not enough.
He’s not insane. He is evil.
He planned the whole thing meticulously — including rigging booby-traps at his apartment.
How so? I've read and watched documentaries about the most hardened bad-asses completely turn into blubbering, drooling babies when their execution date came up. Nothing beats the death penalty.
What do you mean?
He walks.
I was surprised by this. When the jury did not go for the mitigating factors I thought for sure the verdict would be death.
Justice is never certain as long as he breathes. Some future government, appeal or President could commute or reduce his sentence. For that matter Obama could commute the sentence of a poor misguided Muslim who should be confined to a psychiatric facility until he is “better.” (Mega sarcasm flag). I don’t trust the politicized justice system to keep terrorists locked up forever.
I could barely understand the individual reading the verdict. Was he an illegal or an anchor baby? This is America where standard English should be the official language not Spanglish.
I agree. If this doesn’t deserve the death penalty, what does?
Waste of good money.....
Even if he had gotten the death penalty, he would set in jail for the next 20+ years awaiting the outcome of his many, many appeals. In addition to the 50k a year costs for his upkeep, tack on the hundreds of thousands in taxpayer paid lawyer fees for writing those appeals. Just say’n
Yeah, I’ve watched a lot of prison shows on YouTube.
That’s how I came to the “LWOP worse than death penalty” conclusion.
Horrible, absolutely horrible.
There’s a guy who murdered a cop in my home town back in the 1980s. He was 27 at the time. It’s in NY, so no death penalty.
They put him in ad-seg in Elmira, which is a dump compared to ADX. He hasn’t seen the sky since except for once when they brought him to Syracuse for a court hearing about something. That’s it.
Matter of opinion, I guess.
If that's so, why do most condemned to "the juice" try to get commuted to LWOP?
The times we live in where a mass murderer gets to live out his life and garner admiration and maybe even get married behind bars.
Manson comes to mind.
What cowards. People don’t seem to have the guts for justice anymore.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Not know about the specific SuperMax he’ll be in, but I can say from experience it wouldn’t be fun. Years ago I got to tour a new SuperMax prison. Window to outside was maybe 2” wide and a tiny window in the door. They were fed thru a slot and got one hour outside in a concrete “moat” with a chain link a d razor wire roof.
