Jeb Bush was uneven and tepid in his first debate as a presidential candidate.
The former Florida governor struggled to find a comfort zone in the debate setting, looking at times like he was trying to process a multitude of thoughts simultaneously, very unlike his more confident self on the campaign trail in less formal settings.
If Bush is workmanlike in a speech, but animated and inspired in a question-and-answer session or a town hall setting, then in his first time on the debate stage he looked uncertain.
Hes got to look the part, one of his advisers said before the night kicked off. Bush did not for most of the night. He stumbled over his words, lacked assertiveness and failed to go on offense as aggressively as he could have.
Bush supporters argued he had done all that he needed or even intended to do: show up, be steady, and play it safe.
Hes keeping his place and showing that he is different than the family name, that he has his own distinct record, said Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.), who was one of several members of Congress who spoke to reporters afterwards on Bushs behalf.

He underperformed because the debate wasn’t in Spanish....his mother tongue it seems. Of course he’d be wooden, halting or less certain. English as a second language is difficult to master.
Jeb looked weak; putty in Megyn Kelly’s hands. Don’t know how he can pull himself out of it.
It was hard to watch Jeb last night without projectile vomiting. So phony, so fake, so.....establishment.
Trump on the other hand was tactical in his responses and pointedly answered all the questions posed to him. Cruz & Carson I thought also made a good showing.
I told my husband if the nominee is Rubio or Bush, I will not vote.
The ones with presidential class last night were Ted Cruz and Carly Florina.
Booshie has jumped the shark. Milquetoast.
The illegal immigrants Jeb Bush frolicks around with (such as his wife) can’t even speak Spanish well, much less English. Humans speak like their associates, and Jeb’s associates can’t speak a language at all.
In lacking linguistic capabilities, Jeb cannot construct a sentence in any language without resorting to artificial “compassionate conservatism” (AKA closet liberalism) platitudes. If you ask the man to speak about his non-political hobbies, he would stumble over his words more than a first-grader would.
PC is a desease thats killing everything in site across the board carson and trump injected
I asked my wife about what happens with learning a new language. She’s native Czech and lived in Germany for many many years. It took her a while to learn German - immersion by necessity. She and her family also studied English.
She came back with me in 1976 and began the long road (then) to citizenship. First thing, ESL - lots of it. 39 years later, she speaks English better than many Americans born here.
The real point is that there is a certain point with a new language you begin to think it - not bothering to form the thought in the first language and then translating, but starting with it. She’s that way now. It takes her a while to go back to Czech, and even German, and she still struggles for the right words.
This is Jeb Bush. He’s thinking in Spanish because he is immersed in it with his home life. And to think some want this man to be our President.
Yikes—what else did she say about the debate?
Presione 2 para proceder en Inglés.
I don't know about Carly. I thought she came across in a way which would remind too many guys of their ex-wives.
That is an excellent point; sadly, it is one which the federal government fails to grasp. A united nation speaks a single language, and thinks in a single language. This extends to the various dialects of English, as well; for example, someone insisting upon speaking in Ebonics is not going to share the same values as someone who at least tries to speak and write in proper English. Multiculturalism always has and always will fail, no matter where its implementation is.
Multiculturalism is a dilution all the respective cultures. Even if you could assure the best of each was only brought to contribute, there are just some very fundamental conflicts between them that will only bring internal conflict.
The same thing goes for “Diversity”.
He looks like the Frito Bandito!!!!!
I don’t think he underperformed, what we saw was all he’s got.
Out of the park!!
