By any objective measure, Thursday night's debate was a trainwreck for Donald Trump. In one night, he refused to rule out a general election bid as an independent if he lost the Republican nomination, praised the Canadian socialized healthcare system, defended past sexist comments, threatened to be mean to popular Fox News host Megyn Kelly, and demonstrated a lack of understanding of important national and international issues. By any law of politics, the Trump bubble should burst after tonight.
But so far, Trump's candidacy has defied the laws of political physics, so it's difficult to predict the extent to which this performance will show up in the polls.

All of this said, none of the non-Trump candidates said or did anything during this case that seriously, irreparably damaged their candidacies. There was no Rick Perry "oops" moment. But unfortunately, the real race for the GOP nomination will be in a holding pattern until Trump collapses in polls and gets demoted to the kiddie table.

The bad old Trumpster didn't play nicey-nice and act like a typical politician ...
Bwahahaha. What debate did this guy watch? The fear is strong in this one.
Meanwhile, the Drudge poll has Trump at fifty-one percent victorious.
I was not a fan of the gotcha questions.
Full disclosure: I am not a big Trump fan and would only vote for him in a primary if it was a one-on-one between him and Yeb. But he has energized the field and brought out the anger that we in the conservative base feel about being betrayed by the RNC / GOP-e.
Having said that, he was set up from the very opening of the debate. You can tell he’s not a debater and he would have had plenty of time to slip the noose around his own neck, had he merely been given the opportunity to do so.
But Q1: rather than asking candidates to raise their hands if they’d take the pledge to support the eventual nominee, asking to raise their hands if they wouldn’t take that pledge? Really????
And then the follow-up question: are you a misogynist?
Not impressive questioning.
He definitely lost me on the socialized medicine question. Saying it works well anywhere is just absurdly ignorant.
Sh**, I should have train wrecks so destructive.
Fact is, more people enjoy his being in the race because he speaks plainly AND they can’t so easily buy him.
I’m in Massatwoshitts and I most I know prefer him to ANY other candidate in Dem or Rep aisle (which are near identical these days).
-— praised the Canadian socialized healthcare system -—
That’s hard to dismiss.
Trump is a wealthy, elite, liberal, northeastern Republican just like Romney. The only difference is Trump is impolite.
I wish he’d get rid of the scowl.
I purposefully did not watch the debates because I wanted to hear someone else’s opinion who I trust. So my wife watched it and I went to bed early.
Her take?
Megyn Kelly is starting to act like Joan Crawford - from a woman’s perspective she’s a b!tch.
She said “so what?” about other peoples’ comments about Trump being abrasive, or unpolished, or just not an accomplished speaker. She said “we’ve had plenty of those ‘good speakers’ who eloquently told us lies and then stabbed us in the back. Trump says what he thinks and didn’t apologize for being rich or being broke.
Cruz. Very good - didn’t get many questions but still did well with what he had.....
Jeb. What is all the fuss about him? He didn’t stand out in any substantive way.
Actually, she didn’t have anything really bad to say about any of them. But she could see it was a “get Trump” night from the moderators, and that just made her like him all the more.
Yep.
They ought to ashamed of themselves but I'm not surprised.
Not to mention the near total deliberate shutout of Cruz.
I had someone on here tell me that because of how rich Trump was he had the best advisers and knew exactly what he was saying. Wonder if they are rethinking that belief.
We hear the same ol sh## a chicken in every pot, lift everyone up America is great, and when trump starts to vilify stupid politicians who dont know what thier doing, those outside and in that are being allowed to screw America at the expense of its people the panzie a##es cry foul. Although I think trump could have used this opportunity to fine tune his ideas a bit more I just love watching the others pee themselves. Like T said if it werent for me bring out immigration it would be sitting along side a chicken in every pot
Arnold played the same angle of how he was so rich no one could buy him off. Then he got in and “worked with” the Democrats to betray conservatives anyway.
The greatest SHOCK for everyone there was that Trump TOLD THE TRUTH!
WOW! Imagine someone in politics telling the truth...what a novel idea.
However, I have to include Ted Cruz in the “new truthers.”
Hopefully, Trump will wise up and recognize the socialized medicine lie for what it is. He needs to explicitly endorse market based solutions and denounce ALL forms of government handouts.
It’s clear that whether or nor Trump is a conservative, he is willing to atomize the worthless GOP-e into oblivion. So long as he encourages Bolshevists such as Graham to wet themselves in terror and abstains from attacking true conservatives, he could be useful to freedom-loving Americans.
Were you previously supporting Trump?
