We’ve given hundreds of billions to fix infrastructure.
Where did that money go?
Correct answer: Because there’s no need to - there is sufficient funding coming in from the gas tax to actually do that.
If we eliminate waste/fraud/padded union prices as well as the constant raiding of the highway fund for bicycle paths, trains to nowhere and other similar things that have NOTHING to do with highways.
Our infrastructure is always “crumbling”.....
From the damned day it is built....
I would tell this ass hat that it should be the state’s responsibility to build roads and the feds should get the hell out of the business of extorting states via highway regulations for 30 pieces of silver.
Let’s take the money from planned parenthood rather than raise the gas tax.
Pompous fool.
We need Trump! How many dozen times are the crooked bastards in DC going to hose us with THAT ruse. They raise taxes “to repair the infrastructure,” the $$$$ disappear into politicians’ pockets, and nothing gets done to our roads and bridges. We need someone to honcho the deal who won’t screw us over AGAIN!
We spent hundreds of billions of dollars to pay for shovel-ready jobs, and the only shovel-ready job that ever materialized was Jay Carney’s.
Easy answer: When ALL the money collected from fuel taxes goes to infrastructure and we still need more, THEN we’ll talk about raising taxes.
"But since the 1950s, the federal gas tax has been raised under three Republican administrations (Eisenhower, Reagan and George H.W. Bush) and only one Democratic (Clinton)." But since the 1950s, the federal gas tax has been raised under three Republican administrations (Eisenhower, Reagan and George H.W. Bush) and only one Democratic (Clinton).
WaPo
If New Yawkers want to raise their taxes fine.
I note that roads are fine in Indiana,Turn to crap that has a toll booth every 500 yards in Illinois (Chicago), then are fine again in Wisconsin.
Reagan made mistakes, too.
If reafan jumped off a bridge, does that mean we should demand obama do that? Reagan got shot, peraps we can demand obama get shot. Reaan lowered tax rates across the board, mayeb barry czn do that too.
Hee hee hee. Infrastructure. Increased revenues will go only in small part to fixing roads and bridges. Large parts of it will go to bullet trains, light rail, pedestrian walkways and bike trails. Also, a substantial percentage (maybe 8%) of the Highway Trust Fund goes to clean up underground storage tanks.
Congress and administrations have been raiding that fund for non-highway purposes for decades. That’s why there’s a crumbling infrastructure.
In a nutshell: President Reagan agreed to raise the gas tax 5 cents, why won’t you too to repair our crumbling infrastructure?
Because the days of Reagan are gone. We know that once the Federal Government gets the money it will go everywhere but to the infrastructure.........
Answer:
Thomas L. Friedman is an idiot.
Stop Congress from stealing the Highway Trust Fund money and the infrastructure will be just fine
