Donald Trump vows to bring back the millions of American jobs lost to China and other foreign competitors if voters put him in the White House.
Economists say he wouldn

What worries me about the eggheads is that they are going to scream jingoism instead of looking at the fact that the globalism that’s being treated like fait accompli is in fact poison to our species.
Would tariffs help us now as much as they helped in the 1930s to turn a depression into a Great Depression?
Cut taxes! Cut regulations! Cut spending! Cut government!
Quit penalizing our producers!
End the idiotic war on coal, gas and oil!!
The world still runs on coal, gas and oil and copious amounts of capital... and always will!!
Wow - them mysterious "global forces" and nothing about the men who created and manipulated them mysterious forces....
The economists are right. The jobs went to Chinese people in china and then either to Bangladeshis etc or to robots. Those jobs are extinct now. How can you bring back an automated job?
What you said is correct. More specifically, what you propose will create new jobs an maybe new industries
I do not support Trump in any fashion, But he makes interesting points.
It would be simple: raise tariffs on all imported goods! Other countries do that to us. Tariffs were the original source of income for Federal government. Instead of taking from foreign trade, they take it from the common worker.
Free Trade benefits the corporations, not necessarily the worker.
:)
RE: It would be simple: raise tariffs on all imported goods!
So, you don’t mind the following:
1) Increased prices for things we use and consume
2) Potential trade war.
If workers wanted tariffs, we would have them
the fact is, workers like good cheap stuff and deplore the tariffs you worship.
you sound like a good anticapitalist left winger...... anti business and thus anti America
I haven’t been around here very long, but it’s very disturbing to see people being trashed for having opinions outside the ‘faithful’...
I love the idea of Tariffs. So did Teddy Roosevelt. One of the finest Main St Republicans who ever served. This business of calling people
TROLLS
ANTI CAPITALIST
LEFT WINGERS
slurs - not unlike what Boehner and Bush, McShame and the others do to anyone who tried to right this ship.
Workers want JOBS. Your statement - which is foolish on its face because anyone who says they speak for the WORKERS of America is bloviating. There are as many opinions on the subject of Tariffs and the solution to off shoring by TREASONOUS multi nationals.. as there are people.
Could we stop the adolescent name calling each time someone strays from the RNC pack?
good for you. THE RNC, and the corporate types who skulk these boards revert to name calling and bullying anytime a Main St republican speaks up.
son’t be silenced.
Tariffs and trade wars put Americans first. This is the largest consumer society on earth. All these exporters around the world should be begging for us to take their goods.
WE should be writing the rules.
Don’t fall for the dog whistle politics. The enemies within would tell you you’re a communist, a populist, a socialist,... aligned with the dreaded Unions..
nonsense.
There is much to bring voters to a candidate who works for US - and not the multi nationals.
The fallacy in your thinking is that companies with global operations are treasonous.
That is simply not true and represents shallow thinking or good old fashioned ignorance
Figures.
So, you dont mind the following:
1) Increased prices for things we use and consume
2) Potential trade war.
This stand means China gets richer, while Americans are out of work.
“cheap is as cheap does”.
Most other nations post tariffs on our imported goods.
Free trade is good, if all players abided by it.
If workers wanted tariffs, we would have them
the fact is, workers like good cheap stuff and deplore the tariffs you worship.
you sound like a good anticapitalist left winger...... anti business and thus anti America
1. wrong
2. wrong
3. wrong
If this was baseball you’d be out :)
“...National governments have used tariffs for two purposes. One is simply to raise funds for government operations. This purpose is not controversial. The other is to increase the cost of imported items relative to domestically manufactured ones. Tariffs imposed for this purpose are known as protective tariffs, and have always divided opinion between consumers of imports, who have opposed them, and manufacturers, who have benefited from them...”
The problem we have here is that US companies are going to foreign countries and making products to sell to US consumers. Thus the need to remove barriers. My stand is remove the incentive to move manufacturing to other soil, bring it back.
If employment went up, demand for labor would rise and competition for labor rise. I lived that era. Competition here stateside would balance prices. (monopolies cancel that advantage)
