NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
Metro Police report the shooter at the Carmike Hickory 8 Cinema is dead.
The Nashville Fire Department confirmed that shots were being fired at the movie theater on Bell Road just before 2 p.m.
Police responded to a shots fired call about 1:15 p.m.
Dispatch confirmed three EMS units have been sent to the scene.
Metro police spokesman Don Aaron said the suspect entered the theater armed with a gun and a hatchet.
A South Precinct officer entered the theater where Mad Max: Fury Road was showing. There, he encountered the gunman in the projection room. The gunman and the officer exchanged gunfire.
A Metro SWAT Team later engaged and killed the gunman just inside the movie theater.
We believe the imminent threat has ended, Aaron said.
Police said they believe one person may have been injured by a hatchet, but that is still being investigated by the Nashville Fire Department.
Aaron said the gunman had two backpacks on him at the time of the shooting. Crews are working to make sure there is no danger with those backpacks.
Officials at Vanderbilt University Medical Center confirmed no victims would be transported to the hospital.
Witnesses at a nearby business reported one person covered with blood.
The Ford Ice Center and The Global Mall, which are located near the theater, were placed on lock down during the active shooter investigation.
Ezell-Harding, a school located on Bell Road, was also on lock down.
Last month a shooter opened fire a movie theater in Lafayette, LA. The shooter killed two and injured eight before killing himself on July 23. Police said the 58-year-old gunman was armed with a handgun and acted alone.
In 2012, another man opened fire on a movie theater in Aurora, CO, killing 12 and injuring 70 more, in one of the largest mass shootings in U.S. history. The gunman, James Holmes, has been found guilty in the attack and is going through a sentencing trial to determine if hell receive the death penalty.

Yeah it used to be these really were local stories. I barely remember it but I know it happened that a sniper was in downtown Knoxville maybe back in the early to mid 1970's or possibly around 1980-81. I can't remember for sure when.
The building is there, but the mall as it was no longer exists (it’s been converted to other uses, has a college annex in part of it - but it’s not a destination for shopping). Quality of the stores deteriorated and it slowly emptied out from the ‘90s until the ‘00s. Once the premier mall in TN. Crime and die-versity killed it.

Here is their response to our inquiry:
Thank you for your inquiry concerning Carmikes policy on the possession of firearms within our theatres. The events in Aurora, Colorado have placed a renewed emphasis on safety and emergency protocols at all of our theatre locations. Like many movie exhibitors and other retail businesses, Carmike does not allow weapons of any kind, including firearms, into our theatres, except for weapons carried by law enforcement and other security personnel. This policy was in effect prior the recent events in Colorado and remains our policy going forward.

Shooter: “51 year-old local man”
Shooter is ‘White’.
And probably off of his meds...
These crackers are out of control, get Farrakhan on the phone right now
That means about as much as the “no outside food” policies that theaters have. If you can lawfully conceal, then lawfully conceal. The worst they can do is kick you out if they find you doing something against theater policy. You’re not breaking an actual law.
I’m thinking we’re going to wind up having to ban old white guys.
But that’s OK. I don’t go anywhere anymore anyway. Anyhow ...
Heh
“In the era where 90% of the population carries a mobile phone,” Voluntary point-to-point info spread is slow, even Twitter and Instagram, compared to CNN and MSNBC and the rest blasting it 24/7. If the mainstream did not glorify it, these ***** would not get the glory.
Sure cover the story, never use the perp’s name, and don’t cover the trial unless just to say what the sentence was.
Publicity and “fame” is a part, possibly a big part, of the whole phenomenon.
“Which actor in Mad Max is going to fight for gun control just like the idiot who is related to Up Chuck Schumer.....Amy Schumer who was in Trainwreck when the gunman showed during the showing.”
Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron holds a Sawed off double barreled shotgun as Imperator Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road.
Charlize Theron (b. 7 August 1975) is a South African model and actress, probably best known for her Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning performance in Monster (2003). In real life, Theron is a fierce anti-gun activist, which she attributes to the traumatic death of her father when she was 15: her father Charles (for whom she was named) went on a drunken shooting spree inside their home, and was shot and killed by her mother, Gerda, in self-defense.
Charlize Theron can be seen using the following weapons in the following films:

Actor Tom Hardy is apparently Pro Gun.
The fact that Tom Hardy, one of the most talented and busiest young actors of today (Hardy became famous for the role of Bane in the last part of the Batman trilogy by Christopher Nolan), was shooting his new film in Prague and other places of the Czech Republic during summer, was probably noticed by everyone who follows media. However, neither of the media informed you that this likeable British star used his free time in Prague to get to know the newest firearms of

Although there is no proof, a talking head on CNN (Tom Fuentes?) brought up white supremacists.
We obviously need to close the hatchet show loophole.
Guess he didn’t like the movie.
The lady on CNN(Pamela Brown) actually looks saddened that no one was shot..awwwwwwwwwww, the gun grabbers can’t use this to their advantage how sad..the perp is a 51 year old man..what gives with these whackos being older than the usual MO of them being in their early 20s..and yes we need Hatchet control, NO MORE HATCHETS..for the CHILDREN!
Having worked in a pre school, I fear you are correct. Kids and staff are sitting ducks.
