Charlize Theron (b. 7 August 1975) is a South African model and actress, probably best known for her Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning performance in Monster (2003). In real life, Theron is a fierce anti-gun activist, which she attributes to the traumatic death of her father when she was 15: her father Charles (for whom she was named) went on a drunken shooting spree inside their home, and was shot and killed by her mother, Gerda, in self-defense.
