...former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, one of those likely to be relegated to an afternoon consolation face-off, attacked the criteria for making the choice.
"National polls mean nothing," Santorum said Sunday during an appearance on ABC's "This Week." The Pennsylvanian directed his fire at both Fox News, the TV network co-hosting the debate with Facebook, and the Republican National Committee, which sanctioned the debate. "It's just an arbitrary figure, and unfortunately, the national networks and the RNC have gone along with this irrelevant measure of legitimacy of candidacy."
ox has said it will assign the 17 major candidates their places on Tuesday, based on an average of five national polls. Santorum, who won the Iowa caucuses four years ago, now lurks in the back of the Republican pack, with just 1 percent of voters supporting him, according to a new Wall Street Journal /NBC News poll.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, one of the candidates whose participation still hangs in the balance, said he's not worried.
"You know, I'll be very happy on Tuesday when the standings come out and I'm in there,"...
Billionaire Donald Trump, who has been leading virtually every poll...
"I'm not a debater," Trump said over the phone on CBS's Face the Nation. "I don't stand up and debate like these politicians. They're all talk, no action. All they do is their whole life they debate and then they don't get things done. I get things done."
Ohio Governor John Kasich, who may make the cut, ...
"This debate comes six months before the selection of a single delegate," he said. "What I've been focusing on is out there in the grass roots."

What you said, the little pi$$@nt was a proud member of the insurrection that took out Newt.
You could be right. I don’t remember that, but at this point that’s less important to me than him just wising up and withdrawing.
I want Trump, Cruz, and Walker to be grilled. I don’t care about Santorum’s message any longer.
>> I just consider profiting from dead babies somewhat higher on the scale of wrong than others do and put it in perspective <<
Sorry, but I still fail to see how Romney’s bad deeds — no matter how wrong they might be — can legitimately give any rationale for excusing Santorum’s being an economic ignoramus. The logic just doesn’t compute, as far as I’m concerned.
I only remember because I was pretty much full time working that entire 2011-2012 process....saw every second of every debate...followed it hourly. I remember it like it was yesterday. I lived it.
Why is Santorum still running? Go away, and take your slutty wife with you
This is all he needs to say at the beginning of the debate because it's true.
Hey! I resemble that statement ...!
I get far less than I wish I did from our debate system.
It’s a moderator’s trap most of the time. The questions are gotcha centric, and they now become part of the debate, and extend more time to their favorites.
Biden should never have been able to get away with what he did in his debate.
Any moderator worth their salt would have shut that down in mere moments. Obviously that moderator thought it as perfectly fitting.
Rick is a vicious liar. I had my fill of him during the last fiasco. That scumbag sat there promising not to attack fellow conservatives, but made the pettiest, must childish assaults on others frequently and almost immediately after the promises. I remember his nasty ads in Florida, as well as his hypocrital and self-absorbed speeches where the guy would stand in front of a sign that said “Courageous,” and then explain to us how courageous he is, meanwhile the rat didn’t have one single idea to put forward. He was all talk, emotionalism, strutting, but no substance.
Burn in hell, Rick!
>> the nice guy theme is wrong anyway . . . hes a nasty little bitch <<
Thanks! Good to know. I kinda suspected it after I saw him last year as he was leaving a book signing — because as near as I could tell, he was dressing down one of his aides in a rather vigorous way.
(Disclaimer: I didn’t go to the book signing on purpose. No way! Rick just happened to show up at my local Costco as I was stocking up on paper towels and bottled water.)
Oh yes, anger at the moderators was my most common emotion during the what, 17 or 18 debates?
It was excruciating at times, until Newt turned the tables on them some.
....”Im in favor of anything that keeps Rick Santorum off the debate stage”....
Yessy indeedeeee!
Yes, I agree with that. I applauded him for that.
BTW, we’re both ignoring the 600 pound gorilla in the room.
These are not debates.
The moderator should simply introduce two people. Those people should submit their top issues. From those top issues, between 6 and 8 should rise to the top. The moderator would simply name them, and let the two candidates go at it. Opening statements. Question to the other person, responses, and sum up each topic, and at the end.
I think there might be something to final round eliminations.
Start off with 16 and pair them up. The eight winners are paired up again, then four, then two.
That would narrow the field easily, and the issues would get a full ride.
Does Santorum have. A real job, beside running for President every
4 years.
exactly ....we need to throw off this yoke
Exactly right.
Santorum is a sanctimonious, nasty, and spiteful sh!t.
LOL.
Claiming that polls don’t matter...give us a break!
Patriots in uniform , or formerly in uniform , are our best hope .
We have to stop screwing around . America is going to get nuked if we are not careful , or if we continue to portray weakness and ambivalence. It’s that critical . America can’t wait . Those that can really truly change things need to move soon .
The game we have been suckered into abiding by is going to eat us all alive . The enemies are within the gates . Time is short .
>> Patriots in uniform , or formerly in uniform , are our best hope <<
Not necessarily a bad idea. But I gotta say that it looks to me as if you’re limited to Rick Perry or Lindsay Graham. Nobody else now in the race has worn the uniform.
(And no, Donald Trump’s high school military-ish uniform doesn’t count.)
