Researchers at Purdue Universitys School of Hospitality & Tourism Management recently asserted that if McDonalds were to pay their employees $15 an hour, the cost of a Big Mac would go up by 17 cents. According to the studys findings, the proposed minimum wage hike would, in general, spike the average meal cost at a limited-service establishment to upwards of 30 more cents a visit:
Another option proposed by Ghiselli to accommodate the minimum wage increase would be to downsize menu items. For example, burgers would see a 12% decrease in size at most establishments.

Three and one half ouncer?
Just does not sound right.
Quarter pounder; has a ring to it.
We were in the Texas Hill Country last week and we made sure to go by the In-N-Out in Austin and get us a good burger. I haven’t had one since I was in LA ten years ago. Every employee was constantly smiling and the service was great! And, of course, the burgers and fresh cut French fries were to die for and the hamburger meat looked like it was hand made and the lettuce was hand cut. Nothing out of a bag.
So, like you said, if In-N-Out comes to town McDonald’s can close their doors to all except the fatties who want a dollar “burger”. I’m a Whataburger fan but if In-N-Out is in the area Whataburger loses.
“Real answer = $0.00”
+0 on that good buddy.
We’ve already cut WAY back on fast food. Won’t be a giant leap to go to “nada”.
Love In-N-Out when I travel, but none here. They are to hamburger joints what Chick-Fil-A is to chicken, of which we have three in our town.
“Id like to see this study reviewed by Thomas Sowell or someone else of similar qualifications. There are just too many ways to structure a study in such a way that it produces a predetermined outcome. Michael Manns infamous hockey stick comes to mind.”
Same here. Just the Obamacare mandate that kicked in at the beginning of the year raised prices by 20% on bottom and mid-range food. There is NO WAY that a $15 Minimum Wage will not cause a similar, or even much bigger increase.
"I will gladly pay . . ." :-)
The answer: I will spend less money on fast food.
bump
Look at Seattle.
Workers are now seeing no overtime, waiters are no longer allowed tips if paid $15 an hour, no more free meal and parking...
Many of them are taking home less.
The Law on Unintended Consequences.....ain’t it a bitch.
This moron must have $hit for brains if he thinks it would only go up a few pennies a burger.
No mo dollar menu.
Sorry Purdue, your "assertion," must come from valid data, and analysis. I didn't see your data, or your analysis in the article.
My quick analysis shows a Big Mac increasing $1.10, all things remaining equal.
So many studies, so much wasted paper.
5.56mm
Doesn’t take into account the across-the-board retail price hikes which accompany MW raises.
“Look at Seattle.”
Hey, we agree on something!!!
Anyway I do understand conservatives when it comes to not trusting Trump...look at how Rubio double-crossed them (and us) in Florida. But we see how it plays out.
As to the minimum wage - you forgot to add that some workers are ASKING for less hours because $15/hour means $30k per year, which no longer makes them “poor enough” to get government goodies (like free housing, healthcare, child support, Obama Phones, and God knows what else).
I mentioned that on a non-conservative blog once, early-on, and was told that I was full of $%it (that’s how they talk on those blogs). I was half-joking, now it is actually showing itself to be true.
Either he is dumb as a box of rocks, or he is lying his @ss off. In my neck of the woods, a big mac meal is roughly the same amount as the federal minimum wage. Thus, our local McDonalds equates this meals worth at the same value as an hour of work. Changing the minimum wage dose not change the value of a big mac meal, it only devalues the value of the dollar. If minimum wage is increased to $15/hour, then eventually this meal will cost about $15.
Or look at it this way, $7.25 currently buys you an hour worth of work, when the minimum wage goes up to $15, then that $7.25 buys you less that half an hour. This is only one of the reasons that raising the minimum wage never works.
That was back when people thought Rubio was a conservative, I have never had that illusion about Trump
People actually in the restaurant business think it is more like an $.80 increase in a Big Mac, but what do they know?
Bingo!
