...but they are going to have to start calling him to account on his historical positions on moral and political issues, as well as some of his business dealings.

Do you really think the also-rans are immune to the same tactic?

Particularly when there's no "gentleman's agreement" not to show yours if you don't show mine....

¿Jeb?

How can ¿Jeb? possibly be at 10%?

I don't know anybody that would want to vote for ¿Jeb?

Even if you do not like Trump, you can thank him for derailing the ¿Jeb? coronation train.

Very well stated. My brother in law was arguing with me last weekend and trying to talk me out of supporting Trump. He is an establishment type and so he started rattling off Trump’s past (donations, etc). And I told him I don’t give a flying fig. Trump is not an ideologue. He loves America and is a fighter. I’ve never heard a candidate defend America like Trump, in plain English. Not political speak.

Thank goodness Trump’s rise is only temporary — according to the morning news pundits, commentators and challengers.

LOL

The more they count him out, the higher his numbers go.

This shows how out of touch both media and political parties are with flyover country.

they are fighting the last war all over again. they don’t realize Trump ( and Carson) are not politicians and therefore not subject to the normal criteria for manipulation

“But, there are a lot of undiscussed issues hanging in the air, for which the Megyn Kellys’ out there are going to try to cause trouble for Trump supporters.”

Yes, I think people may be underestimating the effectiveness of the debate moderators(the Fox ones, at least) at asking the right questions to force these candidates to address various past actions and/or policy positions. They also may ask questions in such a way as to force them to differentiate themselves and their positions from other candidates on the stage. This is going to be “must see” TV, is it not!?

Trump is entertaining. Trump is saying things that we GOPers want to be said. Trump has enough money that he does not have to pander to donors. Trump really doesn’t care what the MSM thinks or wants to hear. Trump is a celebrity. Trump loves his country and wants it to be great again.

For all these reasons, he is now leading in the polls. He comes across as angry, but with justification. And, that is understandable. He is not an inside the belt-way Republican.

The problem I see is his electability. Can he actually win a national election? and for how long can we put p with his angry persona and his braggadocio? Not certain about him. I am keeping my mind open, but he is not my favorite candidate. I still favor Walker with Jindal and Cruz next. I still think a person who is not part of the DC establishment would be a breath of fresh air. So Walker, Jindal and Trump fit that scenario well.

So why should the Republicans nominate a man that 69% of the party opposes?

Exactly!

Daddy lost his 2nd term bid to a relatively unknown hick politician.

Bro nearly lost his 2000 bid and barely eeked out a win in 2004.

Obama won 2 terms by running against that Family name.

“How can ¿Jeb? possibly be at 10%?”

A couple of possible reasons. First they liked the prior 2 Bush’s and figure that Jeb would simply be a continuation. Second, they are also polling independents who actually agree on some of the garbage that Jeb is spewing.

Like I said earlier, I think that The Establishment has pretty much given up on Bush and they’re now letting him play out.

Cruz is my #1, but Trump may be the catalyst to finish the party realignment that has been 40 years in the making. I'd rather Trump than John Ellis Bloomberg ... I mean Bush.

One ‘message’ to the other wannabes from the recent polls seems to be:

Attacking Trump will not improve YOUR poll numbers.

“I’ve never heard a candidate defend America like Trump, in plain English.”

Exactly. He can make a point in one simple sentence that everybody can understand — and agree with. Others use bafflegab, tap-dance around answers, and/or use terminology over the heads of most voters. Considering Trump’s background, education, etc., this is surprising but is definitely an asset.

I’m thinking the media is sitting on “pounce”

If the media were smart (which, of course, they are not), they would fight tooth and nail for Trump to win.

He would make the media profitable again. It would be all Trump--all the time.
