Seventh-graders in all public and private schools in Rhode Island are now required to get the HPV vaccine.
Starting this fall, seventh-graders who do not get the vaccine will not be allowed to attend school unless their parents seek an exemption for medical or religious reasons, the Providence Journal reported Tuesday.
Tricia Washburn, chief of the office of immunization for the Rhode Island Department of Health, said the Centers for Disease Control found no safety concerns with the vaccine.
"The bottom line is that HPV is the most sexually transmitted disease in the U.S." she said. "We are interested in protecting the public health. We feel it shouldn't be treated any differently than any of the other vaccines recommended by the CDC."

I hate it when the government does something to me for my own good.
F to the hell no.
freaking perverts are also encouraging the same kids to engage in sex and risky sex at that.
Time to move to another state.
I would! Wouldn’t have to move very far to get out of that state. lol
There’s a lot of vaccines out there, should kids get them all ?
In all seriousness, time for home schooling.
Kids that are able to GET SEX whenever they want it are much more likely to be Democrats, so it’s hard for the DEMOCRAT PARTY to ignore this ‘opportunity’ to add to their numbers.
Sad for the girls that will have to suffer with psychological consequences of being violated on a regular basis...but then again, as long as they vote properly, does it matter?
Since the introduction of the HPV vaccines, the rates of new cases of cancer-associated HPV have dropped significantly, by over 50%, in teenagers.
The treatment for a case of HPV that is starting to turn into cancer is extremely painful, and can lead to an inability to carry a baby to term. In the worst cases, the only treatment might be hysterectomy, leaving the patient completely infertile. And even then, the cancer might not be eradicated.
Although cervical cancer is the most well-known HPV-related cancer, it is not the only one. Throat, anal, and other cancers which affect men as well as women are also caused by HPV.
PAP tests will still be necessary, but no longer do young women have to undergo that indignity every year. Between the vaccine and HPV testing, the PAP might only have to be conducted every 5 years!
As a survivor of an early cervical cancer, I can say that I am very happy that so many young women will not have to suffer the pain that I did. And what I suffered was minimal next to the pain that women whose cancer becomes malignant and invasive must endure.
This is not a communicable disease, so why is the State involved??
So what else should the government mandate by decree ?
So sorry to enlighten you, but this vaccine was tested on young women 25 and older. The long term effects of the vaccine on those so young are not known. Maybe kids should be discouraged from having sex at 12?? Some young women have died after this vaccine. Government should not be requiring this for girls so young. Or even older. Sex is not always the option that kids turn to........hopefully they will learn the sex has consequences and not just getting pregnant. And yes, around 75% of the cervical cancers are from a couple of the HPV strains, but if you know anything about viruses......they always mutate. This is not the silver bullet that the Obama Administration claims. And the other 25% of cervical cancers can still be deadly. PS-the Government, with the ‘cover’ of Gardasil, now has severely cut the option of having pap smears. From 18-49, now only once every 3 years. Age 49-65, only once every 5 years. And after 65, only if you have symptoms. Yes, the Health Insurance companies will be fined if they pay for pap smears more often. And the reason so many women over 65 survived uterine/cervical cancers is because the cells shed BEFORE there are symptoms. Once a woman over 65 has symptoms, she will likely not survive her cancer. Your Government doesn’t care about your healthcare......they only want all those healthcare dollars. Trust me......it was my line of work for decades. And PPS-one type of the specimens we would get would be anal smears, usually from gay men. And it is also true that the virus can cause warts in the throat. HPV is a nasty virus, maybe kids should be schooled to be more chaste.......I don’t think it is a lost cause.
You could say the same thing about gun control.
Yes, bingo. This is the cover for eliminating ob/gyn coverage.
It’s what happens when you have the government meddling in every part of your life.
There are many of us in Texas who will never let Rick Perry forget when he tried to do this with our kids. Didn’t go far.
This is not a communicable disease, so why is the State involved??
———————————————————//————————————————————————————————
It IS communicable—via sexual activity.
Perry tried this in Texas, wasn’t fun for the Health Workers, the School, my Girls or me... I really thought I was going to go to Jail... no blood spilled but it came close.
You had to get a signed letter from the Clinic and they wanted to “Counsel” the girls alone...
They did need some new furniture and at least repair of one solid core door before I convinced them they needed to sign the paper, I will never forget the look on the sheeples faces when I left and told my girls to look at them...
This was the same time ALGORES Movie was also mandatory... it was a time that I was making friends and influencing people for sure.
The “slut shot” is being promoted on the premise that every girl is going to be “sexually active” with multiple partners.
How about promoting virginity and chastity?
You can prevent more cervical cancers by eating cruciferous veggies and making sure your 2/16 ratio is high. ..The HPV vax doesn’t really cover much. ..but hey if it floats your boat have YOUR daughter get it but don’t make it mandatory. Ridiculous.
As a survivor of an early cervical cancer, I can say that I am very happy that so many young women will not have to suffer the pain that I did.”
So was your cervical cancer caused by the HPV virus? If not, how would the vaccine help you.
You didn't give the statistics for how many young women have had a bad reaction to the vaccine. Also, it is very rare for teenagers to get cervical cancer.
“Dr Claire Knight, health information manager at Cancer Research UK, told MailOnline young women should be reassured that cervical cancer is so rare in women under 25.
She said: ‘It is very rare for women who are still in their teens to be diagnosed with cervical cancer; there have been around 25 in the last decade.”
There's plenty of articles on the dangers of these vaccines, even death. I don't believe a state should be mandating these vaccines to young girls who are not sexually active.
