Trump Goes Mushy, Incoherent on Immigration (gee, who coulda seen this?)
Breitbart ^ | 7-30-15 | Ben Shapiro

Has Donald Trump made his first serious boo-boo of the campaign?

For weeks, the media have trumpeted the supposed death of the Trump campaign. First, they claimed, Trump’s campaign imploded on launch thanks to his comments about illegal immigration. Then they claimed that Trump was finished because of his slap at Senator Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)43% ’s (R-AZ) war service. But neither of those comments alienated Trump’s base – he’s maintained his seven point lead over Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker in the 2016 presidential polls, with no other candidate breaking double-digits in the polls. In fact, his original comments about illegal immigration launched his candidacy to prominence, with many Americans relieved that a major candidate had finally touched the media third rail and talked openly about illegal immigrant criminality.

Now, however, Trump may have damaged himself with the very people excited by his candidacy. Asked point blank about his immigration policy, Trump dropped the brashness and the blurting, and suddenly went completely Hillary-vague on CNN. After blathering about deporting criminal illegal immigrants – even President Obama pays lip service to this idea – Trump continued:

You sound breathless.

In a few moments, I will be completely breathful. Idiocy, on the other hand, doesn't seem to clear so quickly, so I will worry on your behalf. The tin-foil offer still stands, however.

Your not supplying any truth, you are only rehashing old BS. I tire of hucksters like you who worship the RINO herd. During this primary only Trump has stepped up and said he will stop illegal aliens from getting in and he will deport them. I heard him, as did a few hundred million others...your gibberish adds nothing.

See, you’re demonstrating an interesting aspect of what happens when a conservative decides to trash his principles in order to support a liberal.

You’re doing your best to try and minimize my relationship with God-—my personal experience with Him-—by labeling allegiance to Him as “selfish”, “throwing my vote away”, etc.

That’s why I didn’t relate the details of my spiritual experience regarding the 2012 election. I knew you would behave just as a liberal would, and attempt to dismiss it...in order to salve your own conscience and justify your support for a liberal.

Like I said, that’s what happens. In order to support a liberal, you have to become one. So you have fun with that.

BTW, for the record, I’ve heard all that “seminal election” crap before. Remember, 2012 was supposed to be the most important election ever.

Yeah, save it.

“FReepers are a small minority of GOP conservatives”

But we are still a part of the GOP conservatives and we do
have influence. We act like our founding fathers did when
they were locked up while writing the Declaration of Independence.
That’s what I like, good ol fashion cutthroat
debate.

An Immigration Policy For Hard-Working Americans Rick Santorum

First, we must secure the border and end the acute border surge. The southwestern border is out of control. The way to bring it under control is more and better fencing and more smartly-deployed manpower. To be effective, a fence needs to be similar to the border fencing that Israel uses – high with barbed wire, a screening fence, and a patrol road along it. The complementary way to achieve operational control of the border is to strengthen the Border Patrol: complete surveillance systems; more manpower, especially in the short-run; and reformed Border Patrol operations.

Meanwhile, we have acute border surges because the Obama Administration has let unaccompanied minors from countries other than Mexico, and asylum-seekers, be moved away from the border and thus almost never deported. This non-enforcement of the law has encouraged more such border crossings. The way to end these crossings is to never let unaccompanied minors or asylum-seekers move from the border, to increase the resources needed to judge their cases, and to deport most of them.

Second, all entries and exits should be tracked. Stopping illegal immigrants from crossing the border is just one part of curbing illegal immigration. Very roughly 40 percent of illegal immigrants first enter legally but then overstay their visas (the exact number is unknown). The government’s existing entry-exit tracking system, US-VISIT, does not track 100 percent of entries and tracks few exits. It should be completed and track all of them.

The burden of eliminating the problems caused by illegal immigration does not only lie at the feet of border enforcement, it is also the responsibility of businesses not to tempt illegal immigrants into our country. This is why I believe the E-Verify system must be made mandatory, apply to existing employees as well as new hires, inform employers if there is no match between the Social Security Number and other information submitted, and inform employees if there is possible identity fraud from excessive multiple use.

Other enticements to illegal immigration, such as birthright citizenship, should be ended. Only children born on American soil where at least one parent is a citizen or resident aliens is automatically a U.S. citizen. Of developed countries other than the United States, only Canada has birthright citizenship.

And existing laws should simply be enforced. There should be a sufficient number of immigration judges and a sufficient number of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to do so, as well as expedited procedures for removing illegal immigrants who come into the custody of law enforcement.

Third, we should reduce legal immigration from its current level of 1,050,000 immigrants a year to about 750,000 annually. Our legal immigration system is broken, and we are allowing record-high numbers of legal immigrants to come to America. This has an impact on our economy and American workers who are competing with a million new immigrants each year for jobs.

To accomplish this, we must first start with eliminating chain migration (the immigration of adult relatives) and the diversity visa lottery (a random global give-away of American citizenship). These policies are antiquated, unfair, out of step with the policies of other developed countries, and not based on the needs of our nation.

In the one area of our economy where we have a need for immigrants, agricultural, we must establish a workable agricultural guest worker program. This program should be managed by the Department of Agriculture to meet the needs of our farmers.

Fourth, we should not grant worker permits to illegal immigrants, i.e. amnesty, except to agricultural workers as described above. And we should allow the Obama amnesties (3-year temporary work permits) to lapse naturally by not renewing them.

I have compassion, respect and admiration for people around the world who want to be Americans. It’s our job to make sure America will always be a place for those immigrants we accept will be able to aspire to freedom and opportunity like my father. We do that by keeping America safe, preserving her values and creating a strong economy for everyone. An immigration policy that prioritizes American’s needs, workers, and families is where that starts.

Both sides are terrified. And have pitiful little to attack Trump with.

Paraphrasing out of context.

What he said was return them - AND THEIR PARENTS- back to where they came from.

Tell me who to vote for.

Kind of shy about that, aren't they?

Not shy at all.

Why not vote for the most conservative of the bunch, the one who has been the most true to conservative policies, Ted Cruz?

So simple even a Cave-Man could have figured it out!

“But when you start complaining about other candidates being wealthy members of country clubs you just look ignorant.”

Is complaining about career politicians being wealthy members of country clubs who went into office dirt poor
ignorant? Those people got rich off of people like Trump
who pay the graft. Whats better a poor politician who
wants to get rich or a rich business man wanting to be a
politician. I know it’s kind of out of context with your post
but I just thought I’d ask.

Amen! Trump has said over and over send them all back and let the good ones come back through “LEGAL” immigration and he would speed up that process.

For heavens sake, no Presidential candidate is going to deport 11 million people. Can you just imagine the daily Headlines, and videos of people being drug from their homes to be deported. That’s never, never, never going to happen

BTW, for the record, I’ve heard all that “seminal election” crap before. Remember, 2012 was supposed to be the most important election ever.

We disagree. I don't view your allegiance to Him as selfish, I just realize that in the past I have been selfish in terms of my voting patterns. I used to root for Republicans like I would root for a baseball team, in the hope that this time would be different. And I realize that that was selfish, on my part, because I knew deep down that I was rooting for people who were actively working to fundamentally change this country in a way that I didn't want.

You have made your decision, and I hope that it the right one for you. But, personally, I am fed up. I voted for Romney, most recently, because we knew how much damage Obama could do in a second term. But, we now know that Romney never really even tried, and was probably closer ideologically to Obama than you or I. While you have been told that you should never vote for a liberal again (which I respect), I am equally convinced that Trump is the only way that this country will be saved. I cannot convince you of that, and I wouldn't try. But to vote for my favorite (Cruz) would, in my opinion, be selfish on my part, because I think he has no chance, in the primary, or the general, and would have no chance to really affect matters even he got past the first two insurmountable hurdles.

Trump does have that chance, and has clearly won the admiration of those that I hold in high esteem.

Don’t get hung up on the fact that you’re paying them to leave.

I am not hung up on it. I don't think it is a very effective or pragmatic way to deal with the problem. What is wrong with attrition thru enforcement?

They won’t all take advantage of the offer. That will just get rid of the low hanging fruit. But potentially faster and cheaper than other methods.

I don't see the urgency in getting them to leave. If we secure the border, develop a system to track and deport visa overstays, have mandatory e-verify with tough penalties for employers who hire illegals, get rid of birthright citizenship, leverage state and local law enforcement, and streamline judicial processing, the problem takes care of itself and puts in place a system that will reduce future illegal immigration. The lawbreakers will leave of their own volition or be deported or die.

Your solution appears open-ended and provides no specifics as to how much you are willing to pay and the overall costs. And it does nothing to address criminal aliens.

Legal immigration is a separate issue. We are a nation of laws. Or at least were and would like to be again.

No legal immigration is very much connected to illegal immigration. Many of the illegals are changing their status once in the country. 60% of all green cards issues each year are due to change in status.

I like Santorum on a few issues, but problem is he is un-electable in 2016. He is not inspiring many voters. Check his poll numbers.

lol anything beats not deporting ANY illegals. Common..you are more savvy than that! When no one is deported, they ALL become legal eventually. And they all can apply for citizenship when the right president comes to power.

Allowing those who have long records of many years of productive work, is better than deporting ZERO illegals, any day in my book of common sense.

Agreed. Samtorum is the best on immigration by far. But he has absolutely no support. Only Santorum and Walker are talking about reducing legal immigration. Santorum's reduction to 750,000 is just a token amount, but at least he is willing to take a position on legal immigration, the real third rail of American politics. Walker has supported linking legal immigration to American jobs, i.e., we need to look at the number of immigrants coming in and their impact on American workers.

Trump started off great with his candid and unprecedented remarks about the American victims of criminal alien crimes and that Mexico is where most of them are coming from. This was all contained in a 2011 GAO report, but it was news to the MSM despite the millions of Americans who have been victims.

Trump refused to apologize, rightfully, but the heat got to him and now he is flopping around on the issue like a fish out of water. He felt compelled to say he loved Mexicans, wants more legal immigrants, and came up with the Mike Pence touchback scheme to give most of the illegals amnesty. Most of the other Rep candidates like Cruz who favor amnesty, now say that they will discuss the fate of the lawbreakers already here after the border is secured. It is now deemed the safe response. Trump may revert to that once he gets skewered during the first debate.

Trump is actually acting like a politician. He wants to be loved and will say anything to get people to like him. He just hasn't learned yet how to parse his language so that all sides think he is agreeing with them. If Trump had said attrition thru enforcement, he would have locked up the nomination. Now he will be talking in circles trying to figure out how to get out of the immigration maze.

Obama already gave the Dreamers amnesty in 2012. About 580,000 have received SSNs, work permits, and the ability to travel freely in and out of the country. 99.5% of those who applied were approved with very few personal interviews. The process goes on with more getting amnesty every day.

These Dreamers did not have to be brought here by a parent. They just had to be here up to the age of 15. Is it any wonder that we had the kids surge last summer and now a new wave? And Obama has started a program to fly the parents from their home countries to be reunited with their children in the US. It is insane, but the GOP says nary a word. Cantor wanted a GOP version of Obama's Dreamer amnesty, but Dave Brat gave him a lesson on what his constituents really wanted. No amnesty.

Not my take on Trump at all. He has been on point on securing the border and deportation, and still is. Your assertions of him now just doesn’t jive with the facts imo. My read is Trump is 100% serious about totally turning this around to the benefit of American citizens over any and all foreigners. We will see how it plays out.
