Mayor de Blasio: Feds must rescue Puerto Rico
CBS News ^ | 7/28/2015 | Robert Hennelly

Posted on 07/30/2015 12:50:08 PM PDT by RightGeek

Just days before Puerto Rico is expected to default on billions of dollars in debt, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio demanded President Obama and Congress immediately come to the island's fiscal rescue.

"It's the federal government's obligation to act, because they can't stand idly by and watch Puerto Rico fail," de Blasio told a crowd of hundreds of Puerto Rico boosters gathered on the steps of City Hall.

New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito characterized the hedge funds that hold much of the commonwealth's outstanding debt as "vultures that are eating off the misery of Puerto Rico" because the funds want cuts in Puerto Rico's spending, including for public education.

[Snip - click thru for the full 5 point plan. but my favorite was the following:]

Requesting that President Obama convene his Working Group on Financial Markets to bring all of Puerto Rico's public debt stakeholders together to negotiate a "fair" debt repayment plan as well as explore a loan from the Federal Reserve.

Sure, and why not open a checking account while you're at it? The Federal Reserve doesn't lend to anyone but member banks, or foreign central banks on rare occasions.

I guess this means there aren’t any Christians being butchered there. Otherwise, Wilhelm would ignore it.

I expect a worldwide financial collapse, followed by war and the rise of Antichrist (who is probably walking the Earth right already).

Granted I can’t prove the last two, but everything points to the first indicator in my sentence.

Let New York City bail Puerto Rico out. From one failed government entity to another.

Maybe that will assuage Mayor de Commio’s guilt.

He’s trying to provide cover for all his hedge fund buds in NYC.

Can you even read?

(1) DiBlasio campaigns against hedge funds and is locked in a battle over charter schools with Dan Loeb of Third Point.

(2) His partner in crime, the City Council Speaker, is quoted in this very article calling hedge funds "vultures."

(3) His proposed solution is to use federal power to make bondholders (i.e. hedge funds) to "agree" to a "fair" repayment (that is, force them to accept a loss of most of their investments) so that his actual buds, the unions, will get to feed at the federal trough.

Why post if you can't figure out 2+2?

Shouldn’t have shut down Vieques. The decline started when Rosy Roads closed in response.

They closed Vieques to screw our Navy, Rosy Roads closed in response. The decline started there and hasn’t stopped. Too bad.

That was the Navy’s bombing range? And they lost a U.S. naval base? Brilliant.

Activists with a blind cause. Oh well.

Puerto Rico has been running a Ponzi Scheme.

We could possibly think about rescuing them after they hang all the Shill politicians that got them into this mess.

Heck, I’d even fly to Puerto Rico to see their politicians hanging from streetlights. That would increase tourism.

He’s against hedge funds the same way HRC is against Wall Street. She vacuums up the money from them while publicly excoriating them same here.

Why be such an incredible, uncivil snot? Did you beat the dog tonight, too?

So you are accusing DiBlasio, an obvious socialist, of being a secret capitalist?

He's not enough of a Communist for you?

Why would you waste your time on a conservative site?
