Mitt Romney, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, criticized Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Thursday for his harsh rhetoric against the Iran nuclear deal. Cruz, a 2016 presidential candidate, has repeatedly warned in recent days that the agreement would mean President Barack Obama's administration is essentially sponsoring terrorism.
"If this deal goes through, the Obama administration will become the leading financier of terrorism against America in the world," Cruz said in a July 15 Fox News interview, for example.
He added: "I've heard this referred to before as the 'Jihadist Stimulus Bill.'"
But Romney argued on Twitter that Cruz's comments undermine the opposition to the deal:
"I am opposed to the Iran deal, but @SenTedCruz is way over the line on the Obama terrorism charge. Hurts the cause."
Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) July 30, 2015 Cruz's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider. However, the senator doubled down on his charge against the Obama administration on Tuesday, after the president himself criticized Cruz the day before.

And that is why most knew Romney could never be President.
No intestinal fortitude.
Because I've heard tweets should be short and sweet.
Cause soft and gentle was such a winning strategy, eh, Mitt?
Romney is mincing words, just like an experienced politician...go Ted!
Mitt Romney? You mean Mitt Romney who ran a lame campaign against Obama in 2012 and lost? Mitt Romney who refused to attack Obama’s radical anti-Americanism, and who now attacks Ted Cruz for attacking Obama? That Mitt Romney?
Go home to your mansions, nobody cares what you think!
Romney is an Obama supporter. Always was.
He’s a private citizen now. He has no business commenting
Keep your Mitts off Cruz Romney!
Hands up those who are shocked the liberal Willard is attacking Conservative Senator Cruz ???
Amen to that. Playing nice is for wusses. Gutless here threw softballs at Odumbo before the election just like an establishment whore.
And, just like the other GeCOCs (GOP-e critics of Cruz), Romney didn’t say Cruz’s statement was incorrect. Just that he shouldn’t have said. Cowards all.
How can he voice his opinions, when he was running for Pres. he didn’t do so hot, so I really don’t have much worth in his voice, kinda like I don’t care what McPain says, garbage in, garbage out....
The Rat Willard could not find enough helpless
children of conservative politicians to impugn,
directly or with his surrogates?
And, just like the other GeCOCs (GOP-e critics of Cruz), Romney didn’t say Cruz’s statement was incorrect. Just that he shouldn’t have said. Cowards all.
Sometimes I am glad Romney lost. I despise Obama but Romney would have destroyed the last vestiges of conservatism in the Republican party.
Gotta wonder want Ann Coulter saw in him.
What’s President Romney so upset about?
Oh, wait . . .
Romney continues to hurt The Cause.
Are the Cruz people paying Romney to rip on him? Maybe he can get John McCain and Lowell P. Weicker to pile on.
