The Afghan Taliban have released a statement purportedly from the family of Mullah Omar saying he has died of an unspecified illness.
The statement, emailed to The Associated Press on Thursday, didnt say when he died.
It followed an announcement from the Kabul government the day before. Senior Taliban figures have also told the AP that Mullah Omar died.
The statement says its being issued in the name of Mullah Omars brother, Mullah Abdul Manan, and his son, Mohammad Yaqub.
It apologizes for any mistakes Mullah Omar (made) during his rule of Afghanistan.

What's the saying, "In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is King."
It apologizes for any mistakes Mullah Omar (made) during his rule of Afghanistan.
Sarcastic LOL...
Sounds like the Clintonian “Mistakes were made.”
So sad. All he wanted was to be left alone with his collection of human heads.
Ping. I guess you don’t need to keep your eye out for him any more.
:^)
Dang it. I was gonna tell Dead he can put his eye back in now.
This just in: Family of SpinnerWebb confirm the loss of all his firearms in a tragic canoeing incident
So the people who have been speaking for Omar the last two years?
” ... and then wend their way to the harems and bathhouses of all muslims named `Mohammed’ and `Hussein.”
Someone needed to ping Dead...
The headline yesterday said “Mullah Omar is dead.”
So dead had us fooled all of these years, the whole time he WAS Mullah Omar.
Habeus corpus to the ‘family’ of Omar, condolences to yours............
Does that mean he is dead, then who is posting under his name?
C’mon Omar, tell us some stories of OBL and what really happened at Torra Bora.
Here is a link contemplating what comes next now that the Taliban no longer have Mullah Omar.
> But Mullah Mansoor faces a challenge: can he keep the Taliban united and rein in hard-liners who want to continue the 14-year insurgency, now that U.S. and NATO forces have stepped back?
Gosh, what happened to the AP’s “Reagan started the Taliban” meme? Someone’s gonna get fired for sure.
ISIS has been recruiting in Afghanistan; Afghan refugees to Iran have been press-ganged into service and shipped off to Syria to fight al-Qaeda, ISIS, and various other jihadists and non-jihadist opponents of the Assad dictatorship, because Iranians don’t want to serve there. The ‘Palestinian’ thugs the mullahcracy uses to keep on the lid in Iran are not only needed at home, many also don’t want to support Assad.
