The University of Cincinnati is reportedly closed down this afternoon as police officers prepare for potential riots over the death of an unarmed man who was killed by university cops during a traffic stop last week.
Samuel Dubose, 43, who is black, was shot and killed by white UC Officer Ray Tensing after Tensing reported that he was dragged by Duboses vehicle and had to fire. The shooting, called not good by Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell, was captured on Tensings body camera and is set to be released today:

With the audio, it’s clear he started the car.
I must have watched the moments leading up to the shooting at least 20 times now, looking for some possible justification. I just can't see it. At most, maybe the officer was afraid that the guy was going to flee (as he appeared to turn the car on, and maybe put it into drive), but getting from there to deadly force, in less than two seconds, is just.....unbelievable.
The guy in the car moves his hand to the shifter as the action starts.
I split my time between a stick shift and and automatic transmission, I sometimes reflexively move my hand to the shifter without thinking about it when I start or stop the auto. That could be deadly.
You're not paying attention. Look at the GD booze bottle. It's full and appears unopened.
Loot whatever you want without fear of arrest or reprisal was sufficient pay for Roman soldiers.

My audio wasn’t working... gotta try and fix that and listen.
Is there a live feed from WKRP?
Yeah, Les Nessman is in a plane somewhere over Covington KY.
Well, he DID
- drive without a front plate
- drive without a driver’s license
- had bottle of gin in the front seat (unclear whether opened)
- did show presumptive attempt to escape when told to get out
It ain’t “privilege” to make sure you
- drive with all required plates
- drive with a driver’s license
- don’t have alcohol in the front seat
- don’t have opened container of alcohol in the car period
- give the cop your driver’s license when he asks for it
- get out when the cop tells you to get out
I’m not justifying the cop’s actions, though Chris Rock is still right about what you’re referring to.
You're clearly not paying attention. The prosecutor was certainly correct, the officer had no business being a cop. They brought in seasoned investigators and looked at the video 400x enlarged it, in slow motion frame by frame. And then they sent the prosecutor out with the bad news. This is painfully clear.
Yeah, that kind of thing has been going on a long, long time, and it has nothing whatsoever to do with race. Maybe, just maybe those of us criticizing such actions are just asking for the cops to act like the professionals they are supposed to be, not a bunch of roided up jackboots. A cop should be emotionally grown up enough to be able to handle disrespect without going full-on-jackboot on a citizen.
Is that clear on the video? as in either the cop verbalizes acknowledgement that it was unopened, or the video has enough resolution to show the seal was still intact? I’m not sure either way, but I am sure we’re not sure it wasn’t open (full, but just opened alone would constitute a violation or misdemeanor).
Not hard at all. Except when they bypass the "danger of death and grievious bodly injury" part and go straight to the shoot you part. Then according to you it becomes a "training issue".
“appeared”
So we don’t know. Full does not prove unopened, and opened is sufficient for conviction.
Spread it far & wide.
He had just started the car.
After being told, in effect, to get out.
They find the sealed bottle but the neck of the bottle only. The bottle was on top of the vehicle’s roof when the cop blew the victims head off. The bottle likely hit the ground and shattered. But the sealed top should still be obvious.
The bottle was full.
Again, “appears”. You don’t know, and I don’t know. I’d like to know; until then, we don’t know. There’s plenty of room in this scenario for, without anything crazy involved, for the incident to involve a DUI.
That could very well be the case.
I haven’t had a chance to step thru the raw video at 400x frame by frame.
Check your vitriol. I’m trying to objectively understand what happened, not hammer on a preconceived notion.
Are they gonna riot tonight or not? I’m planning the evening and need to block out some tube time if it’s a go.
