While his favorability rating took a hit, a new poll shows that Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump’s comments about Senator Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)’s war record are not the silver bullet many in the GOP and media hoped. A YouGov poll taken after Trump’s ill-considered remarks show his support among Republican voters has surged by double digits and well-ahead of Scott Walker and Jeb Bush, his two closest competitors.
During the week of July 4-6, Trump was in first place, with 15% choosing the billionaire businessman over the rest of the field. Bush sat at 11%, which tied with Kentucky Senator Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY).
The latest poll was taken between the 18th and 20th. Two of those days occurred after Trump’s McCain comments. Regardless, Trump not only held on to first place, he surged to 28% support. Bush came in second with just 14%. Walker came in third with 13%.
Trump is not only in first place, he earns twice the support of second place.
The GOP and the media have done everything in their power to destroy Trump. He’s not only gotten strong, but he is becoming a much better candidate.

I don’t understand why Cruz is only at 4%. He’s all over the place, makes outstanding speeches and comments and yet is just 4%. Maybe the debates will boost his numbers. I like what Trump is saying but Cruz is a real conservative. The Canadian single payer comment by Trump really bothers me. Maybe he’s ‘evolved’ and would truly get rid of Obamacare. We’ll see.
We really shouldn't, but I don't see anyone being banned over it.

Once Ted Cruz begins to ascend the polls (and he is bound to after the first couple of debates), and even Scott Walker, there will be a solid voting bloc which will have the more establishment candidates quaking in their boots.
Walker is from such a liberal state, that he may have some difficulty establishing his conservative bona fides, but given what he has done in putting the unions in their place, I do hope that he begins to gain some traction as well.
Come to think of it, the "kooks" and "extremists" (the ones that all the leftists and mainstream media are deriding) are going to make a big impression on the electorate, and, for the most part, a positive impression, IMHO.
And what will the Democratic party be offering in Hillary? Nothing but the same old tired, failed establishment liberal policies.
I really think that Hillary's timing is just totally wrong.
I'm beginning to perceive a national movement which will unite voters from all over the political spectrum.
I think that there is something very profound brewing with respect to the 2016 Presidential election, and I think that if the Democrats depend on this demographic advantage that they supposedly hold, they are going to be sorely surprised at just how little that is going to matter. There's going to be a patriotic awakening which will reach into many formerly reliable liberal demographics.
Maybe, just maybe, the People will realize that their race, religion, age, sex, and economic status is not the most important thing when electing a new President. What is most is important is doing what's best for America as a whole.
I'm starting to feel very encouraged about this election cycle, and I sincerely hope that the Trumps, Cruzes, Pauls, Walkers, and their ilk are going to, collectively, help usher in a new era of American pride and prosperity.
And those who want to sit around and bad-mouth certain candidates simply because they don't agree with them on every single issue are going to be left standing on the sidelines, mouth agape, while the rest of us move this nation forward.
Jeb and Hillary have picked the wrong time to be Establishment Party candidates, IMHO. I believe the American People are looking for anything other than such candidates.
No matter who our individual favorites happen to be, let's all hope and pray that that's the case.
Jeb Bush was my governor here in Florida, and did a passable job, but he's literally almost the last Republican I'd like to see win the nomination. I could care less about Jeb and Hillary's name recognition, and I think much of the populace will be in agreement on that factor this time around.
No matter what happens, The Donald deserves the thanks of every FReeper (and every American) for what he has ALREADY done. If there is more to come so much the better.
It seems to me between them, our two generals have the enemedia/Rat complex in a classic pincer move. Trump calling the media out, “They are liars!” cruz calling McConnell out. “He lied...” It hurts. That is why they are squealing. They are getting their asses handed to them. They can’t do a damn thing about it. They did not see it coming and it has never happened before. Priceless!

I like your thoughtful analysis and agree but as I keep pointing out you forgot the one element we all forget every time until we get kicked in the teeth every four years. Rat fraud in Florida and Ohio. Any GOP nominee will have to have at least a ten point margin in those states. Frankly, I think it is impossible. I pray I am wrong. The real question we need to prepare ourselves for is what are we going to do the next day. Will we sit on our collective asses and let them swear Hillary in?

Any realignment of either thought or priorities would have to be with the Republican Establishment, if they wish to remain relevant.
First of all, the border and amnesty. Whatever used to be the essence of that ideal once known as “the United States of America” is being diluted and polluted by the quickening flood of new occupants that share nothing in common with the long-time natural-born and naturalized citizens who came here before this latest deluge.
Secondly, on the abomination that the tax code and its enforcement arm, the IRS, are seriously in need of not merely reform, but the whole concept of why taxes are collected in the first place. “Fund government operations” is the answer most people think, but no, the tax code is a social engineering machine, subject to constant tinkering as one objective is preferred over another, and preferential tax treatment for certain kinds of spending or savings behavior gets extremely lopsided from time to time. The concept of “fairness” went out the window a long time ago.
Doing this fandango with Iran, under the pretense it will somehow buy us “peace”, is only preparation for a confrontation in which whatever remains of any semblance of order in that territory once known as “the United States of America” crumbles, as it is overwhelmed by rioting and criminality from within, and overt attacks from foreign sources, tearing away at influence and physical capabilities elsewhere in the world. They don’t even have to attack, they simply move in as The Current Regime now squatting in the White, er, “Rainbow” Hut continues a craven retreat.

There is much anger out there from the base.
All those candidates who slammed Trump believed it would be the popular thing to do. Now they realize they also slammed his supporters while doing it and are now trying to figure out a way to apologize to the voters without looking like the total idiots they are.
I have a suggestion. “I wasn’t aware that McCain called Trump’s supporters ‘crazies’. That was wrong so Trump had the right to fight back. Please, forgive me for not taking up for the crazi..er I mean, Trump supporters.”
It won’t be long before Rove and the bunch will be slandering everyone who supports Trump. He might even borrow from McCain and call them “crazies”. Remember, no one is smarter than Rove.
Yes. This came as a complete and pleasant surprise to me. I figured his campaign would be a nothingburger.
The only painless path out for the Establishment is that The Donald implodes. That's why so many were willing to push him in front of what was assumed to be a freight train of media condemnation.
The peasants are revolting, and shooting them isn't yet an option. Their votes are needed.
