Ted Cruz calls Mitch McConnell a liar on the Senate floor
WashPo ^ | 7/24/2015 | M. Debonis

Posted on 07/24/2015 7:58:58 AM PDT by VinL

Firebrand Republican senator and presidential candidate Ted Cruz on Friday rushed across a line rarely crossed on the Senate floor: He called the leader of his party, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a liar.

"What we just saw today was an absolute demonstration that not only what he told every Republican senator, but what he told the press over and over and over again, was a simple lie," Cruz said Friday morning. "We know now that when the majority leader looks us in the eyes and makes an explicit commitment, that he is willing to say things that he knows are false. That has consequences for how this body operates."

Prompting Cruz's outburst: McConnell's move to set up amendment votes on a must-pass transportation bill. After senators voted to consider the bill, McConnell (R-Ky.) set up votes on two controversial measures -- a repeal of the Affordable Care Act, and a reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank of the United States -- and did it in such a way that will make it difficult for other amendments to be considered.

That move incensed Cruz -- who, like many conservatives, strongly opposes the bank's reauthorization, though it enjoys support from a supermajority of his Senate colleagues. While McConnell has personally spoken against Ex-Im reauthorization, Democrats said in June he had agreed to schedule an Ex-Im vote in order to get highly divisive trade legislation passed.

But McConnell at the time denied that any deal had been made, and Cruz said the same assurance was given in a private Republican conference meeting.

"Like Saint Peter, he repeated it three times," Cruz said Friday.

And that’s just one!

He just went on “Morning Joe” and said he identifies with some things as a Democrat. That’s almost word for word what he said a few years ago-—”I identify as a Democrat.”

He hasn’t changed.

You and I both know that if Jeb Bush were to get the nomination, for the Dems it would be 2008 all over again. Bush...Bush...Bush... bailout... financial crisis, war etc-—— Reps will get beat , up and down.

Therefore, strategically, it is better to raise that issue now and take Jeb out of the running. No, I have no way of knowing if Ted Cruz thought of that for Trump, it’s just that I associate Sen. Cruz with strategic thinking.

McConnel.

Remember how effective Denny Hastert was as house leader. Why is McConnel in this position?

“When will anyone be recalled and indicted?”

A person winning a federal election to office, cannot be recalled. He/she can lose the office in the next election, but there is no recall in federal offices.

I’m not convinced Lundergan would have been an improvement over McConnell - what infuriated me is that the sell-out republicans voted the idiot back into the senate leadership position.
McConnell should be in a position for which he is suited...a back bencher.

Maybe the line he crossed means that the gloves are coming off.
Ted Cruz is the statesman or diplomatic version of the Donald.
As astute as Senator Cruz is, he must recognize the electorate is energized by the direct calling out of the scumbag politician lying, deceptive, treasonous behavior.
He has crossed the line from just another politico douche
to perhaps a defender of the constitution and the nation!!!!

Trump is to Conservatives what 'Brobama' was to liberals. Just like 'Brobama' he is throwing red meat out and many conservatives are gobbling it up, but I assure you 5 minutes after he stepped into Oval Office all those promises would disappear as fast as they did with 'Brobama'.

I can wait for the Youtube video which will be like the the one of the liberal black lady gushing over 'Brobama' and talking about him paying her rent and food and gas, but it will be some middle aged Tea Parties say:

"No more illegals and those here shipped back, and a secure wall will now be built and Mexico has to pay for it all!"

Nonsense. The improvement is that McConnell is out of the Senate and would not have been majority leader. It had nothing to do with Lundergan's quality as a Senator.

” He just went on “Morning Joe” and said he identifies with some things as a Democrat. “

My position on mercury poisoning the seas is supposedly the Democrat one. I thought it was the common sense one.

I’m not convinced Lundergan would have been an improvement over McConnell - what infuriated me is that the sell-out republicans voted the idiot back into the senate leadership position.

She would have been an improvement in regards to the most important point; That Republican voters will not put up with back stabbing by Washington Establishment Lords, and that there will be retaliation against them when they malign and abuse us.

All other matters are of lesser importance. We had *ONE SHOT* at punishing the Washington Establishment for running racist attack ads against their own voters, and the Republican voters of Kentucky and Mississippi utterly bungled it.

No other consideration was as important as demonstrating to the Washington Establishment that you would cut off heads that offended you. Now they are encouraged to screw us again. Indeed, by re-electing that Back Stabbing McConnell, they probably saw no need whatsoever to oppose Obama's lunatic agenda.

After all, nothing happened to McConnell when he stabbed us in the back, did it?

I don't care how bad Allison Lundegran would have been. You can't do worse than letting one of your own traitors get away with it.

“And the fact that he isn’t as bombastic and unmoored as Trump in how he speaks on the issues, is an advantage in reaching a broader range of the electorate.”

We couldn’t have Trump as President due to his attacking people personally, calling them tacky names, instead of attacking issues and giving solutions. He couldn’t sit down with Putin and offer anything but attacking Putin’s not wearing a shirt in certain photos. Trump would maybe make a vice president, using his skill at trading to make better deals with the US and other countries. He does need to stop calling people tacky names. He is childish in this regard.

Cruz knows the constitution backward and forward and how to defend our liberties which he has done in the supreme court a number of times and won. Putin would be at a great disadvantage sitting down with Cruz. Putin would have to be on his guard with Cruz. Putin would laugh at Trump’s tacky diatribes.
