During the July 21 airing of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, host Jon Stewart told President Barack Obama he needs to act quickly if he’s going to “take away Americans’ guns and declare martial law.”
Obama walked out to sit beside Stewart amid rousing rounds of applause. The two exchanged niceties amid laughter, with Stewart pointing out Obama has “about a year” left in office and Obama responded by saying he is going to issue an executive order forbidding Stewart from leaving The Daily Show. (Stewart previously announced he is leaving the show in August.)
According to Deadline, Stewart then began making observations and asking questions based on Obama’s limited time in office.
Stewart said, ““You don’t have that much time to take away Americans’ guns [and] declare martial law… if you’re going to do that, you better get started.”

Back when I was active in the landuse world in the 90s, I studied propaganda extensionally and have done so since. It was a curse really since it is so pervasive. everywhere you look, propaganda impacts something negatively. It makes me crazy that so many are blind to it and how it works because really, when you come right down to it, it’s simple. Which is also why it’s so effective.

Those you refer to as "Libs/progs" are not driven by a desire to self-destruct, but by an obsession for uniformity--generally on an Egalitarian model; but uniformity, nonetheless. An armed population has kept Switzerland free for centuries, and was seen as a model by George Washington. Germany next door, fell to a totalitarian monolithic movement, after being whipped to a frenzy by the compulsive neurotics who see a Uniformity of values, as the wave of the future.
The Nazi version of the compulsion won out over the Communist in a nasty battle in the streets, but both versions looked to Marx's silly pronouncements on historic inevitability.

Joking on a silly comedy show is not necessarily the tell, but the 2008 campaign offered definite evidence of a tactical affinity; as well as compulsion driven pursuits.
Obama ha already considered it, of course.
What’s he got, another 17 months? Lotta damage can be done in that time for sure. I do believe he’d LOVE to try it.

But insofar as Stewart - yes, I think he was just being a douchebag and poking a finger in the eye. Does he mean it, inside? Probably... until it affects him directly.

You’re not the only ones jittery, the left up here are working hard to take our freedom top.
A legitimate government cannot disarm its people. Any effort to do so is both proof of illegitimacy and a just cause for armed resistance. Fortunately, our government would never do such a thing because the Second Amendment provides absolute legal protection (”shall not be infringed”) for our most important God-given individual right.
