Although Donald Trump is trying to re-invent himself as a conservative for a possible bid for president in 2012, reminders of his prior support for Democrats and big government polices keep adding up. The latest: The Donald supported the auto bailout in 2008.
I think the government should stand behind them 100 percent, Trump told Fox News Neil Cavuto nearly three years ago. You cannot lose the auto companies. Theyre great. They make wonderful products.
Faced with crushing debts caused by poor management and high labor costs, GM and Chrysler requested federal assistance to keep the firms afloat, and were granted a $25 billion loan in the fall of 2008. President George Bush then secured more than $17 billion for the companies.
This occurred months before the birth of the Tea Party, but conservatives were outraged.
Not Trump. A longtime advocate of sweetheart deals between corporation and state, the real-estate developer went all in for the deal.
[Y]ou have to try and save the companies, Trump said in a separate 2008 Fox News interview. And I think you can easily save the companies.
The Club for Growth, a free-market advocacy group that opposed the bailouts, blasted out a statement Wednesday knocking Trump for his support for bailouts over bankruptcy, and cited that the real-estate mogul had succesfully filed for bankruptcy himself four times in the past 20 years.
If theres anyone who should know the value of filing for bankruptcy, its Donald Trump. He should have known that the $13.4 billion government bailout of the auto industry just put off the inevitable while putting taxpayers at risk, said Club for Growth President Chris Chocola. Bailouts and nationalizing whole industries can cripple free markets and has hampered our economic recovery. We need our next President to understand that economic freedom leads to growth and prosperity for all, and that the government should never be in the business of picking winners and losers.
I know, that’s what I’m saying.... “Fool me once...” and all that...
If Kasich makes a speech and nobody shows up, is he still irrelevant?
Actually, he posted another one to me...go read it. You will learn what ignorance is...
Question...
If he wants Detroit to pay the creditors back, WHAT are they going to use for repayment? Isn’t Detroit bankrupt or on the verge of bankruptcy?
If so, wouldn’t that mean that the Taxpayers would not only bail out the businesses but Detroit too?
Who are you calling ignorant? Just clarifying. TIA.
Up until 7/14/2015 Jim Robinson has posted exactly one message to you: "Go, Trump, GO!! Trump them RINOs!! Make em cry!! Cruzn to the White House."
So what is the ignorance of which you speak?
Why do you think Trump ‘loves’ big government?
I don’t blame him for taking advantage of the rules that are in place.
But he’s rich- he kows they are bringing the country down, and if everyone else is poor he is not going to make much more money in the hotel biz.
I will not put Jim on the spot, but it was a post about Cruz. Find it...you’ll enjoy it :-)
Im aware that hes not going to be completely conservative. Im not delusional... but hes saying what I think and what I want to hear...
Now...heres the rub.
I voted for Jesse Ventura for the same thing (and suffer[ed] the indignity of it)... lets be careful here.
Lets be careful.
That begs repeating.
Its summer time. There is not much going on. Well, at least not much going on in the campaign.
It could get to the point where the juggernaut is too powerful to overcome.
And no, I do not have an alternative. And no, the rest of the field does not send shivers down my leg.
But, I just dont want to get too far ahead of ourselves. We have plenty of time.
I think that is the issue now. As in, July the year before the election.
There is so much going on in the world, and none of it good. Russia could pop any day. Israel could chimp out on Iran. The economy could show its true colors and start collapsing again.
And I haven’t even put on the tinfoil yet.
Immigration is a big deal. I agree with that. But hanging your hat on that as your single issue is dangerous at this stage of the game.
*Snicker*
His wife kisses him in the morning and says, "I love you, honey, but you're so irrelevant."
There is such a long to-do list when it comes to cleaning out this government but I believe he is taking it one issue at a time and driving his point home before going on to the next topic.
RE:Bailed-out GM is investing $3.5 billion in Mexico.
When do Americans sneak over the border to get those jobs? “
LOL
Are you kidding? Americans getting jobs in Mexico? Look how Mexico treats THEIR illegal immigrants. Beat em, rape em, steal any money or valuables they might have, and throw them in prison. Then beat them more.
America 2015....”land of the spree, and home of the nave”
“Which begs the question, who would listen to Kasich speak...”
I MIGHT PAY HIM 5 BUCKS TO GO AWAY.
He could buy a personality!
Russia causes trouble. President elected in 2016 legalizes 20 million illegals. Democrats elected forever. Russia can do whatever it wants.
Israel attacks Iran. Obama lets the UN sanction Israel. President elected in 2016 legalizes all the illegals, Democrats win in landslides, Israel ceases to exist.
Economy collapses. President legalizes 20 million illegals. Democrats win all elections from here to the end of time, and create socialist workers paradise.
No matter what else is facing this country, if you don't fix illegal immigration the right way after the next election, this country is effectively over. If Trump will fix it, but is crappy on everything else, we can deal with the everything else in 2020. Doesn't mean I won't support Cruz over Trump. But I will support Trump over Rubio, Perry, and the others who might otherwise be conservative. Not sure yet whether Walker would be tough enough on immigration, I could see him going for a compromise. Carson is a great man, but he will not be President. The rest of the field is a bunch of GOPe losers. So basically, at this point, with the Donald surging, I'm fine with it. I am hopeful that at his meeting with Cruz, they worked out some kind of deal.
LOL!
But true.
LOL!
Maybe we should sneak across their border and back again to get free college here.
Who will object?? The GOP??
