Although Donald Trump is trying to re-invent himself as a conservative for a possible bid for president in 2012, reminders of his prior support for Democrats and big government polices keep adding up. The latest: The Donald supported the auto bailout in 2008.
I think the government should stand behind them 100 percent, Trump told Fox News Neil Cavuto nearly three years ago. You cannot lose the auto companies. Theyre great. They make wonderful products.
Faced with crushing debts caused by poor management and high labor costs, GM and Chrysler requested federal assistance to keep the firms afloat, and were granted a $25 billion loan in the fall of 2008. President George Bush then secured more than $17 billion for the companies.
This occurred months before the birth of the Tea Party, but conservatives were outraged.
Not Trump. A longtime advocate of sweetheart deals between corporation and state, the real-estate developer went all in for the deal.
[Y]ou have to try and save the companies, Trump said in a separate 2008 Fox News interview. And I think you can easily save the companies.
The Club for Growth, a free-market advocacy group that opposed the bailouts, blasted out a statement Wednesday knocking Trump for his support for bailouts over bankruptcy, and cited that the real-estate mogul had succesfully filed for bankruptcy himself four times in the past 20 years.
If theres anyone who should know the value of filing for bankruptcy, its Donald Trump. He should have known that the $13.4 billion government bailout of the auto industry just put off the inevitable while putting taxpayers at risk, said Club for Growth President Chris Chocola. Bailouts and nationalizing whole industries can cripple free markets and has hampered our economic recovery. We need our next President to understand that economic freedom leads to growth and prosperity for all, and that the government should never be in the business of picking winners and losers.
“Stones” means he acts like a 13-year old girl on Twitter ??
That’s the only ploy you tired Trump fanboys have when anyone points out he is a liberal. Can’t you see how lame and ineffective it is?
I remember when the component work went from the US to Mexico in the 80s.
Then from Mexico to China.
Now it’s going from China to Vietnam and Sri Lanka.
Africa is next, if they get enough reliable infrastructure in place.
bump
“The search for ideological purity is a trip down a rabbit hole.”
Anyone who would settle for Trump hasn’t even bothered searching for “ideological purity”. They could have tripped over a more conservative candidate in five minutes of googling.
I know, the game is so rigged that even those who call themselves conservatives and run on conservative platforms, can’t be trusted to legislate/represent in a conservative fashion.
Thanks guys! This business of trying to stifle anyone not perfect, who is actually firing to good effect on the real enemy, is part of the lunacy that keeps us on the defensive, while our civilization crashes and burns.
That is the most pathetic post I have ever read.
Do you really think that because someone does not support a lefty Celebutard big-mouth all-show Idiot for President that they must be a liberal??
I don’t think Trump even believes half the stuff he says. I wouldn’t trust him to tell me the truth on any issue.
“WE DO NEED TO GET HIM TO TALK ABOUT GUTTING THE SIZE OF GOVERNMENT and stop being a single issue campaign mislabeled as anti-immigration by the praetorian media”
Trump’s a liberal, so he doesn’t want to shrink the government. Also, he has already shown he can put a hook in most conservatives’ mouths by just yelling about immigration, so why would he bother talking about any other issue?
I note that you use this phrase when you get your butt handed to you.
Nope, just that since I deemed that you and other hate being challenged, Ill just post articles to prove Trump is a Trojan horse instead.
Could also be that JR expressed support for Trump shaking up the establishment, directly to you... heheheheh
I said almost on purpose. Cruz would be good. Maybe Walker. After that ......
Here’s a side of detailed explanation, to go with your Trump hit piece....
Trump: Rescue Big 3, but Then Its Bankruptcy
The U.S. government should proceed with the proposed bailout of the Big Three automakers, but a key condition of funding should include a massive reorganization through Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, business magnate Donald Trump says.
Trump on Wednesday said a combined bailout and bankruptcy would restore consumer confidence in the carmakers and allow Detroit to pay its creditors, which will boost the U.S. economy. The survival of General Motors, Ford and Chrysler is important to the long-term health of the United States, Trump told CNBC....
.....”If you look at the airlines, I mean, I’d rather buy a car than fly in an airline that is in Chapter 11,” said Trump.
“When Delta went, when United went, and so many others, people didn’t stop flying. In fact, I think their business went up. As long as they know the company is going to exist, people will continue to fly. You sit there as long as it takes to get wonderful union contracts and wonderful contracts with your suppliers and everyone else.”

“hes saying what I think and what I want to hear...”
Con men always say what they think you want to hear.
Okay that's funny. :)
It must be the great sucking sound that Ross Perot talked about.
my statement stands on its own and is applicable any candidate.
“Those would be the Bush bailouts that Trump had nothing to do with.
You however probably voted for Bush.”
Did Bush propose those bailouts when he was running for office?
“most” of the others is the operative word - but not all.
Altho, when this settles down, and people stop emoting and start thinking, he’ll be way down the conservative list of names. He’s been well left of Rubio, for example, for a long tine....til very recently.
