Wall Street Journal: Cruz’s closeness to Trump reveals ‘lack of character’
The Dallas Morning News' Trail Blazers ^ | July 20, 2015 | Sylvan Lane

Sen. Ted Cruz insists he won’t wage “violence” on Republicans–which is part of the reason why he won’t condemn Donald Trump’s comments about immigrants and prisoners of war.

The Wall Street Journal isn’t holding back, though.

The paper’s conservative editorial board slammed Cruz and praised former Gov. Rick Perry for their starkly different responses to Trump’s claim that Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., “is only a war hero because he got captured. I like people who weren’t captured better.”

Perry, an Air Force veteran, had one of the quickest and most forceful condemnations of Trump, insisting the real estate mogul wasn’t fit to be commander in chief and should drop out of the race.

But Cruz, who met with Trump last week and has praised him for drawing attention to illegal immigration, defended McCain but refused to comment about Trump.

The Journal’s editorial board wrote Monday that Perry should get “full credit” for criticizing Trump, but said Cruz was “revealing his own lack of political character” and rebuked his reasons for staying out of the fray.

“Mr. Cruz recently released a book whose main theme is an attack on other Republicans,” wrote the editorial board. “It’s central to his campaign strategy. The Texas Senator must be hoping to inherit Trump voters once the casino magnate flames out.”(continued)

So if someone pulled you out of a sea of 320 million people and made you the potential vice president of the United States, you wouldn’t at least give them a perfunctory endorsement the next time they ran for office, out of politeness and loyalty, if nothing else?

They’re all united under their hatred of God and their desire to see Christianity marginalized.

Not if I believed the country was at stake. I wouldn’t have agreed to be McCain’s running mate.

Okay, so you’re more principled than she is. Got it.

It may be possible that winning the country back will take people with courage to say no to their friends.

Remember when Nikki Haley endorsed Romney after getting a 5 figure contribution from his PAC? Would you say I’d be more principled than her if I gave back that contribution and endorsed a real conservative? Of course, Palin got a lot more than 5 figures from McCain. I guess that means she owed him a lot more huh? It took a lot of courage, and was a great risk in paying him back. Especially when her whole schtick is being anti-establishment, genuine conservative and you’re endorsing a man whose whole career has been about destroying your supporters.

{Trump: “(McCain) insulted me and he insulted everybody in that room. And I said somebody should run against John McCain, who has been, in my opinion, not so hot. And I supported him for president. I raised $1 million for him. That’s a lot of money. I supported him, he lost, he let us down. But he lost and I never liked him much after that ‘cause I don’t like losers. But, but — Frank, Frank, let me get to it.”

Luntz: “He’s a war hero. He’s a war hero … “

Trump: “He’s not a war hero … “

Luntz: “He’s war hero.”

Trump: “He is a war hero … “

Luntz: “Five and half years in a Vietnamese prison camp … “

Trump: “He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured. So he’s a war hero … “

Luntz: “Do you agree with that?”

Trump: “He’s a war hero because he was captured, okay? I believe, perhaps, he’s a war hero. But right now he said some very bad things about a lot of people. So what I said is John McCain, I disagree with him that these people aren’t crazy.”}

Good for Cruz. Instead of attacking Trump, the candidates should present why we should vote for them and attack Hillary, who is now attacking the GOP. And they are attacking Trump even though what he says is correct - immigration and McCain being no hero. Albeit Trump did go on to say McCain was a hero, the MSM fails to play that part.

Retard Rick gets praised. For what? Not knowing even 3 Executive branches in a national debate? I agree with Trump that there should be an IQ test for the Aug 6th debate. Rick couldn’t qualify for Romper Room.

“What should Ted Cruz say?”

You are cordially invited to bite the corn nuts in my butt cakes? (I would have been a terrible politician)

Big big donor to Jeb. Also, the chief just became a billionaire. Jeb was neck deep in Lehman bros during the 08 meltdown

He kissed John McCain a$$....At least Trump fights.
***********

Really???? When Trump said that McCain wasn’t a hero, he got a few little boos from the audience, and then he ran scared like a little girl- and kissed McCain’s butt 4 straight times... “he’s a war hero” ... “he’s a war hero” ... “he’s a war hero” ... “he’s a war hero” .

Yeah, some fighter. He’s damn lucky Cruz was there to give him some backbone.

Ted Cruz mentioned in his book

He likely mentioned it elsewhere.. in public for mass consumption.

I don't think Cruz is one of those wankers that wants folks to buy a book to get some clarity.

I don’t think either Trump or Cruz are thinking third party, they are both in this to win the Republican nomination.

But the GOPe want it to be a Jeb vs Hilliary election. And it is very likely they will get what they want.

Jeb is never going to beat Hlliary. (and he would be as bad as her if he could win).

So under a Jeb vs Hilliary election a Trump/Cruz third party is the only option that can possibly stop a Hilliary Clinton Presidency. Something to consider.

Tell me where I am wrong on my assessment.

If Trump/Cruz/Palin/Paul/Lee/Sessions would start a political party the GOP is the third party.

Wow! All I can say is wow!

If it is Jeb vs Hilliary, it is the only hope we have. I hope all 6 of them hear of your suggestion.

By this standard, anyone who speaks with a Democrat shows a lack of character.

I cancelled my subscription to the Wall Street Journal years ago, and don’t regret the decision.
