SHELBY, N.C. (BP) North Carolina pastor Rit Varriale wants to see churches fly the Christian flag above the American flag as a biblical statement, reversing flag etiquette that calls for the American flag to be flown in the prominent position. Varriale, as senior pastor of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Shelby, N.C., said the church installed its first-ever flagpole in order to raise the two flags in a special ceremony after morning worship on Sunday (July 5) in which the Christian flag was raised in the higher position which prompted interviews by Charlotte-area NBC, CBS and Fox affiliates.
If you stop and think about it, [flag etiquette] is inconsistent with what the Bible teaches us, Varriale said. We are first and foremost Christians who are called to serve the living God.

The UN flag should not be flown higher than the national flag.
The Nazis were big on law too. Flag codes are a violation of the Constitution.
United States v. Eichman,
the Supremes claiming that such a federal law violated 1st Amendment-protected speech, a decision which I will take arrows by agreeing with.
And although the states arguably have the 10th Amendment-protected power to limit flag-burning, if you can burn the federal flag then surely you can display arbitrary flags above the federal flag.
In fact, why not display the Christian flag higher than the flags of the constitutionally powerful states, and display the flag of the constitutionally humbled federal government below those flags?
The UN flag should be ridiculed and burned.

Navy & Coast Guard (used to) fly the church pennant above the ensign during church services. Another pennant with Moses' tablets on it for Jewish services. Don't know if there's a Mohammedan pennant, but I hope not.
I’m not offended by this. I do think there is an etiquette to how the fly the flag, but the Christian flag is different.
The first Islamic flag I see over old Glory, I’m not going to be a happy camper. I can tell folks that.
There is no Biblical or traditional warrant for a “Christian flag”.
So do you support standing on the flag?
I believe the pastor is not focused on his primary responsibilities.
This doesn’t bring lost souls to Christ.
I pledge allegiance to God and only to the State and USA when this Republic honors and gives thanks to our Lord for our individual, unalienable Natural Rights, which predate all governments. We especially give thanks for the Bounty and Freedom and Blessings which flow directly to those in this united nation when we are humble and willing to acknowledge your Wisdom and Rule of Law which is truly Just and Righteous.
Ok——I am not Francis Bellamy.
As long as he flies the Stars and Bars beneath the American Flag.
I have no problem with it. At least, not anymore.
As long as America has now become so sick and depraved as to legally recognize two perverted homos as the same equivalent as a husband-and-wife, I have no intention of ever flying Old Glory again. This is no longer the country I pledged allegiance to.
True but he was making a symbolic and accurate point.
As the un flag is not elected government, i will use it for toilet paper when i run out of the koran.
Yup.
Christian flag - white body field, in upper left quadrant a blue rectangle, and within the blue recfangle, a red cross.
The un flag needs to go away. It isnt government.
It isn’t about what is easy, it’s about sending a message.
I don’t see flying Old Glory other than half mast and upside down. The current feral government does not resemble the republic for which it stands....
So? The Christian flag was often flown above OLD GLORY on board US naval ships during church services and funerals during WWII.
