Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry lashed out at fellow Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Sunday over offensive comments the real estate mogul made about Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).
Trump questioned McCains status as a war hero over the weekend but the gaffe could cost him with an important base of Republican voters: military veterans. Perry, who served in the Air Force, called Trumps comments a bullet that went through John McCain and hit a lot of us that were in the uniform of this country.
Trump taunted McCain on Saturday at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who werent captured, he said sarcastically.
Perry pounced on Trumps comments in a play for veterans votes.

Rick’s mouth is his own worst enemy. He should stifle it.
I think some people are missing the point here.
Imagine Donald talking about Putin, or the Saudis, or the English.
In business you can get away with saying stuff off the cuff and being an arrogant pr!ck.
On the international scene, that’s not how it’s played.
Call them all wimps and long jacket wearing homos, but his antics would not play well with nations.
“Truth is...... if your a democrat and a veteran...
Your also a traitor..”
Don’t forget that until fairly recently, Perry was a DEMOCRAT. He stayed RIGHT IN THAT PARTY while they were trying to impeach Reagan over Iran Contra - I guess he was JUST FINE with that, at least until Texas became a Red State and had to switch parties to not end up with Wendy Davis.
I’m a veteran..
I will not fault Trump for telling the truth about McCain..
getting captured did not make him a hero..
how did he act while he was in that POW camp ???
we knew in 2008 that McCain was not a hero..
other POWs told us about his time in captivity...
In the end, ALL of the career politicians are part of the same club, and they definitely take great umbrage when anyone who isn’t part of their club has the audacity to slap them around a bit. Almost all of them seem to have the “do you know who you’re talking to” mentality. Irrespective of the negatives of Trump, that anyone is now essentially laughing at the ridiculous self-importance of those who make up the political establishment is extremely refreshing. I would love to see a “This is Spinal Tap” video about career politicians, including the hair transplants and plastic surgery.
Thank you Gov. Perry.
Everyone seems to forget McCain was a member of the “Keating Five” for a reason, and I don’t think it was for his impeccable honesty.
Rick is sounding unhinged.
The TWO TIME draft dodging Willard weighing in is no surprise..
Hes usually disgusting...
and usually doesn’t know what hes talking about..
ya notice that Willard had nothing to say about the Islamic terrorist who murdered our five real life heroes ???
and ya notice that the politicians and GOP candidates who are throwing tantrums have not served themselves ???
I know.. the propaganda is great..
Trump is YODA with a comb over.. and bowtie..
that right there is funny.. by itself..
Seems LaRaza Rick is more mad at Donald than he ever was at Obama. Why is that?
You can watch the video here.
The interviewer keeps interrupting Trump. When he says “he’s not a war hero ...” I don’t think he completes what he was going to say. Then right after he says “he’s a war hero because he was captured” - which is pretty much correct.
So true and I’m glad Trump is sucking all the air out of the room so these weaklings will fade. Trump and Cruz are the only ones with a chance to win the general election.
Franken and Trump...two clowns.
Donald has that terrible combover...and Perry has perfect hair? Yet Trump gets all the attention why WHY WHY??!!"
Even his hot new eyeglasses that are supposed to make him look intellectual, have no effect!
And BTW Perry your "determined leader look" is the face of a kid filling his Huggies with hush puppies. Just sayin.
I didn't either. Nor any of my friends, most of which are veterans and all of which are Trump supporters.
I’m a vet, and I consider John McCain to be a traitor to his oath, a traitor to the US.
McCain is a self-proclaimed “progressive” - might I remind everyone the source, the origin of that appellation is with the Fabian Socialists? Marxists? Communists? Hillary Clinton and Barack Obeyme both refer to themselves as progressives.
McCain has used his cover as a “war hero” and a POW for his underhanded Senatorial dealings over the decades to enrich himself and his state and sell out US sovereignty to globalist powers.
Does ANYONE recall his role in “The Keating Five”?
How about his selling out to the communists/VC?
Call it Stockholm syndrome if you really want to be kind, but I think that is another bit of slight-of-hand.
McCain has helped to incrementally - progressively - engineer the overthrow of the US government, the founding of the “North American Union” and the police agencies and regulations necessary to keep us all in line during the transition, like it or not.
He even went so far as to use the newly weaponized IRS to help terrorize the opposition to his tyrannical leanings:
He’s a political criminal and deserves the fate of Ceaucescu or Mussolini. As a vet myself I’m more ashamed of McCain’s legacy than Trump’s pronouncements. Get ‘em Donald. Give ‘em hell!
And Rick, have a large cup of STFU on me.
To Perry and other typical politicians with your predictable sound bytes: Please get a grip and cut it out with the feigned indignation and hyperbole. It’s not appealing at all. It’s opportunistic and transparent and doesn’t get you one inch closer to the Presidency. You are in a BIG pack of other politically correct milquetoasts, and when it comes to solving REAL problems in this country, you are ALL cowardly and MIA.
It’s funny that I NEVER see these same people put out the vitriol over Obama, Hillary, and other loathsome, country-destroying Dems as they do Republicans and conservatives. Mitt and his machine SURE did go after Newt Gingrich in 2011 and 2012, but he must have run out of ammo and steam by the time it came to attacking Obama.
Trump is doing a great job of separating the wheat from the chaff, or in this case the chumps from the champs.
