Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said he does not owe John McCain an apology for saying the Arizona senator is only a war hero “because he was captured.”
"He's a war hero because he was captured," Trump said of McCain Saturday while at a campaign event in Iowa. "I like people who weren't captured."
Before Trump's comments, McCain had referred to those who attended a campaign event for the real estate mogul as "crazies."

Walker and Jindal made a horrible error yesterday jumping on Trump. Walker will not close our border. We want our border closed and jobs returned from Mexico and Mexicans returned to Mexico.
Walker is a “pod person”. He can’t win without labor ( Reagan) Trump will have labor support because he will return manufacturing to the USA. Walker is equivocating or against closing the border. I don’t want to hear that “he wants comprehensive labor reform” That is equivalent to “let the illegal aliens in and let them vote”. It took Walker 1 week to fizzle like a cheap Chinese firecracker.

How about our soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen throughout the wars, who were caught and held captive?
How about our diplomats held for 444 days by the Iranians, freed only when Reagan came to office. No respect for them, since they got captured?
How about Jews “captured” and held in internment camps in Europe; deserve no recognition, who has been on every side of every issue, since to Trump they got caught?

All of those groups you mention are certainly worth of respect. Absolutely. No question.
When a “survivor” of horrible war atrocities,,uses his circumstances for personal power and exploits it,,he is no hero. That’s John McCain.
What has “survivor” McCain done FOR veterans,,ever?
We need to think about what it means to be a hero too. There is significance to actually being a war hero. All vets should be respected and greatly esteemed for their service, but only a few men who distinguish themselves in battle or save their follows in battle should be honored with the title. I can’t possibly imagine what it is like to go through being s POW. I have heard that McCain collaborated with the enemy. He should not be punished or shamed for it, but neither should he be lauded as a hero.

Several years ago we went to a Lt. Dan Band performance at the Manhattan Armory, NYC. Not well-publicized. No cameras there. Not even a crowd for this military event. But Donald Trump showed up. Just to be in the audience.
Well said. Maybe Trump should say, “I’ll apologize when Juan McCain apologizes for the ‘crazies’ remark.” Can you even imagine McCain ever calling illegal aliens “crazies” or offending them in any way, shape, or form? No...only Americans who want our immigration laws enforced can be so insulted with impunity.
I think Trump is good for doing this McCain should be exposed as appropriate and I think Trump has him figured out very well I’m just talking about the other POWs he roped in who by the way would have no use for Trumps money. It’s just not everything

Hell, McCain was PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE as a senator for seeing to it that NO efforts were made to get back the remaining TWO THIRDS of the captives in NVA. They never made it back and now are likely dead from neglect and disease.
Their existance was an open secret in the European diplomatic community for years after the war.
Trump is on the edge of being insulting toward POWs, which is bad. But he’s right in that McCain being a POW doesn’t mean that he’s automatically a war hero. People erroneously think nowadays that cops and firefighters are automatically heroes, too.
