Franken 15 years ago: "I don't buy the war hero thing. Anybody can be captured."
(Excerpt) Read more at reason.com ...
$25,000 to democrats. $1000 to republicans (and mostly GOP-e, I’d bet).
If a Republican senator voted 25 times with the Democrats for every one time he voted with the Republicans I don’t think you’d be trying to tell us he was anything but a RINO. Even if he did say the right thing about the borders.
As for Reagan he was a Democrat 18 years before getting the GOP nomination not 18 months
And Trump is on record and supporting universal healthcare and single-payer: http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-supports-national-health-care-2011-4
The only thing he’s going to replace Obamacare with is something even worse
Trump said as much. He said, basically, “I need to get things done and that’s how things get done. I didn’t create the system. I don’t like it. YOU (us) allow it”
If that what Trump has donated lifetime, I’d call him a miser. I’d wager he’s donated millions, not thousands.
You have me convinced that Trump is no conservative icon.
Please tell me why a GOPe drone or Hillary is better for the country.
But I suspect folks in Minnesoooota, aren’t now going to start demanding that Franken resign his Senate seat because of it.
“Why is McCain a war hero?”
The word means someone who has done something exceptionally courageous, but then what is “exceptionally courageous”? Best to not argue about who is a hero. However, the word is overused by the press, who try to tell us who are the heroes.
“Warrior” is another word that’s overused. We have the “wounded warriors”, etc. Though I wasn’t in the military, I would rather be called a soldier than a warrior.
A friend that was in one of the Special Forces units told me once that “warriors never win”. He meant that you win by using your brain.
Any fool can be shot down and captured by the enemy.
But not just any fool would decide to endure the torture that McCain did when all he had to do was say the word and he could have gone home. As the son of the CNO he was offered a chance to go home if he renounced the war, but he stuck by the code of first in, first out, and is honored by those who are aware for that.
I don't let my dislike of McCain's policy positions cloud that fact. Trump probably isn't even aware of it. I'm sure he was busy during that war...
Getting captured by the enemy does not a hero make. However, it does sometimes help make a political career. It’s amazing how much mileage McLame has gotten from his years as a POW. His mediocre track record as a politician would seem to be a more accurate measure of the man than his time spent in the Hanoi Hilton. There’s nothing heroic about his career.
“Any fool can be shot down and captured by the enemy”
Not true. Ive never been shot down and captured by the enemy.
Thought I’ve never served... ;-)
Trump ought to be end this by stating, ‘we will probably disagree on the war hero stuff but there is no denying John McCain was a failure as a Pilot, he is also a fraud by claiming he is a Conservative when running for office then attacking them once in office and he is crook see Keating five investigation. Anyone denying that is delusional!’
“McCain is a war hero because he denied the option to be released early ahead of other prisoners that had been held much longer. At that moment,McCain essentially offered and gave his life to his country. Yes, sometimes simply sacrificing and surviving makes you a hero. McCain is one of them.”
Needs repeating. I believe that we should divorce the war hero part of his life from the political part. You can be a decorated war hero _AND_ a scoundrel. Exhibit #0: I give you...Charles Rangel.
I wonder if McCain realises he has ridden the “war hero POW” horse so far into the ground that it’s giving off a terrible aroma?
Sounds like a rationalization to me. Trump has no class if he is mocking John McCain. I disagree with McCain, but will never forget the sacrifice guys like him have made.
They say Trump is not a candidate but an entertainer, but they elected an actor from SNL. Hypocrites.

McCan has a lifetime 82% conservative voting record according to the American Conservative Union’s ratings. It could certainly be better but when you compare it to Maine Senator Susan Collins’ 47% conservative goting record, McCain doesn’t look so bad.
For the legislative year 2014, McCain voted conservative 91% of the time.
-—” because a President should not be disparaging POWs. Under any circumstances.”
Have to disagree with you. If a POW becomes an Obama supporter wouldn’t you disparage him/her? OF course you would!
I think Trump isn’t articulate enough to explain himself, but what he’s trying to say is he admires “heros” in the true sense of the word. And while there are many different definitions of “hero” the one that comes to mind is someone who demonstrated bravery and saved some people.
McCain stint as a POW only roughly fits the classic defintition of “hero” because he was a SURVIVOR of a brutal imprisonment. But that’s all.
But he’s not the type of “HERO” who dodged bullets while trying to save an injured comrade.
Applying that metaphor to his politics, McCain has been an absolute coward.
Trump is right here. He just needs to articulate the foregoing points.
So McCain’s political record and political name calling is immune from criticism forever? Meghan is that you?
“But only one of them is seeking that job.”
So far. Franken easily could put himself out there for “that job” in the not-too-distant future.
“If our side of the aisle did its damn job in Congress and followed through on implementing the conservative agenda...”
Yup. And if my aunt had a penis she’d be my uncle. But my aunt isn’t my uncle, and our side won’t do its job in Congress. They never will and we might as well get used to it.
