"He's not a war hero," Trump said. Sarcastically, Trump quipped, "He's a war hero because he was captured." Then, he added, "I like people that weren't captured."
Trump's comments came during his appearance at the Family Leadership Summit, a day-long gathering of about 3,000 social conservative activists that is drawing nine other Republican presidential candidates.

It’s only a matter of time before Trump calls Lindsey Graham “Scarlett O’Hara”.
I’m a vet, and I’m concerned with McCain calling millions of Americans “Crazies”.
McCain will eat those words.
True. The problem is not that he was a POW. It's that when he had the chance to ensure the return of MIA/POW's that were still in prison camps, he and KERRY sold out to the Viet Cong. Kerry's relative got an exclusive deal on realty sales in Vietnam.
McCain was promised he would be allowed to one day run for President.
After taking an 'escorted' tour, Kerry and McCain signed a document stating that there were NO AMERICANS left in Vietnamese prison camps.
I guess the bombastic one would disagree with you...as he back tracks...I am loving this...
At a press availability following his remarks, Trump denied saying that McCain isnt a war hero and said, If somebodys a prisoner, I consider them a war hero.
” is not a subject for mockery”
It’s not. Trump shouldn’t have thought it much less said it.
However out of respect for his military experiences I have mistakingly given him the benefit of the doubt about some of his political positions and behavior.
Actually, the rocket came from an F-4, not McCain’s A-4.
Admiral Stockdale was the senior officer in the "Hanoi Hilton".Stockdale wanted McCain Court-martialed for collaboration. ,
Mccains's daddy the admiral, offered Stockdale,
a Congressional medal of honor to shut up.
I don’t know what the fuss is— Being captured does not make you a hero. I think I heard that he collaborated with the NVA and had special quarters away from the other men. He was to be released first after Nixon won the release but he resisted because he didn’t want to be shown as a favorite. Heroes go “above and beyond duty”. I don’t see that in McAmnesty at all.
McLame got 28 medals for 20 hours of combat flying... He MUST be a hero... Or an Admiral’s son who wanted to make a name for himself.. Known to other pilots at the time as “McNasty”, although I don’t know why.
Well said, deserves repeating. Republicans think they're so great, so good that there is no room for any unapproved comment. Republicans are better than that, yada yada.
Personally I'd rather be on a less self-righteous team that plays well together. At lease we'd have a shot at winning once in a while.
Absolutely not true.
I think McCain did more than 30 anti-american broadcasts while in captivity.... Great service to his country for sure!
Many have forgotten about how he stopped the further search and demands for our POWs. Most of us Vets haven't.
Another lie, but you knew that.
Welcome to Free Republic, BTW.
Can't agree with the Donald on this.In spite of my intense dislike for McCain he cannot, unless he engaged in misconduct or disobeyed orders,be blamed for having been shot down. Many, many fine Air Force,Navy and Marine aviators were shot down over North Vietnam...some of them, perhaps, with the assistance of Hanoi Jane herself.
None of us knows about McCain’s Hanoi years.
We do know about McCain’s early service years.
We also know how he treated Veterans and the families of people still missing in action from Vietnam. We know on whose behalf he treated these people that way.
We also know of McCain’s trips to Libya. We know who he was willing to have his picture taken with.
We also know who he lobbied on behalf of, for weapons in Syria. It was al Qaeda. And while Mr. McCain could claim he didn’t know, the rest of us were almost sure of it. He should have known what we do now after the fact.
In light of what I do know about McCain related to his military service and his years afterwards, I have serious grave questions as to his Hanoi years.
I’m not going to trash him for those years, because I just don’t know, but I have a hard time thinking a man like McCain who has been a lecherous flunkie his whole live when we could see him, was suddenly and temporarily a super hero when we couldn’t see what he was doing.
So, he “clarified”...
Oh, how tough he is...
You can assert that, now explain why Stockdale got CMH
