Army chief of staff Gen. Ray Odierno said on Friday he has no plans to arm recruiters or add security patrols to military recruitment centers in the wake of the Islamist terror attacks on unarmed, unguarded military offices in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Thursday. Odierno basically said he doesn’t trust his troops to handle their weapons properly.
Also on Friday, the Marine Corps ordered recruiters to not wear their uniforms at work for ‘force protection.’

Odierno made his comments at a breakfast with reporters, according to the AP.
“”Security at military recruiting and reserve centers will be reviewed in the aftermath of the deadly shooting in Tennessee, but it’s too early to say whether the facilities should have security guards or other increased protection, the Army’s top officer said Friday.
“A day after a gunman shot and killed four Marines and wounded three other people in Chattanooga, Gen. Ray Odierno, chief of staff of the Army, told reporters that arming troops in those offices could cause more problems than it might solve.
“”I think we have to be careful about over-arming ourselves, and I’m not talking about where you end up attacking each other,” Odierno said during a morning breakfast. Instead, he said, it’s more about “accidental discharges and everything else that goes along with having weapons that are loaded that causes injuries.””
…”In the wake of previous shootings at military facilities, the services have reviewed and strengthened security precautions at the centers. But most of those involve safety precautions and the need to be aware and watchful of surroundings.
“Odierno said that there are currently no plans to have security personnel posted at recruiting centers, but added that there will be a review. He said a notice went out Thursday to all Army locations reminding them of protection measures.”
On Friday evening ABC News Pentagon reporter Luis Martinez reported on Twitter the Marine Corps ordered recruiters to not wear their uniforms at work.

I'm not "challenging" you, but do you have a link? I know the "average citizen" is almost a lost cause these days, but I'd think even they would find this troubling. This also brings up the question of whether our intelligence services knew something was coming? I still think such measures are useless, because the next step is attacks on anyone, anywhere in the US, where mass casualties can be sustained.

There might be some articles from the weeks prior to the July 4 weekend. Terror warnings were talked about. FReepers talked about the warnings quite a bit. I don’t recall if specifics were given in regards to the military. but now that I typed that, I recall that there was chatter from ISIS that they were planning attacks on U.S. military members wherever they are. And their families. This was weeks ago. Sorry I don’t have any links. As for my personal knowledge, I can hardly link to that. Consider my knowledge a secondary source.

I have hope that the new Chairman, MARINE General Joe Dunford will override Odierno and restore some sanity, common sense and dignity to this situation. Odierno suffers from Petraeus Syndrome.

I found a LOT of links to articles prior to July 4, regarding increased worries about ISIS attacks in the US. I was really busy in that period & not following the news closely. (Still busy, but things (news) have just gone so horrible the last couple weeks, that I came back here to catch up.)
I don’t see anything immediately regarding the orders you speak of, but maybe someone here can turn something up.
We are being led by people who are cowards in everything but what they would do to us, and our country.

Oh the Marines would have to comply, of course. But once you go from combat veteran active duty Marines to plain clothes unarmed albeit loyal trusting and hopeful ( that someone in the We The People crowd will stop this crap), you may as well be doing that. What you said

I worked in an office that had a ‘no gun’ policy. I figured a Beretta Tomcat .32 loaded with Winchester silvertips wasn’t really a gun.

Earlier there was a story that Congress will demand that troops on US bases be able to carry a pistol as part of the Defense Authorization bill. If recruiters can’t, recruiting offices will attract not only more Muhammed Abdulazeezes, but also armed private citizens guards like the gentleman in Winchester, VA who went fully armed to the local recruitment office and stood sentry nearby in case there would be trouble.

Somewhat the same here. My short stint in the Army as a draftee in the 50’s was with tough, kick ass and take names Regulars. The brass at that time and most assuredly those of prior Army service would have laughed this General out of command. Giving him the ultimate insulting award of a pair of pink panties.
Alright, how about one of them wearing fatigues? The other Marine(s) could be in “Dress Blues and Tennis Shoes”. Heard that at Marine Barracks, Guam in ‘56.
