OSLO (Reuters) - A nuclear deal clinched between Iran and six major world powers that caps more than a decade of negotiations has stoked talk of a joint Nobel Peace Prize for Tehran and Washington this year, despite the likelihood of strong objections from some quarters.
U.S. President Barack Obama, who won the prize in 2009 for promoting nuclear non-proliferation, hailed the Iran deal on Tuesday as a step towards a "more hopeful world". But Israel pledged to try to halt an "historic surrender".
Awarding the prestigious award to Washington and Tehran would fit a pattern of nuclear-themed peace prizes in years ending in '5', commemorating the bombings of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.
"I think the work of the Nobel Committee ... this year just got much easier," former Swedish prime minister Carl Bildt tweeted after the Iranian deal was announced.
But many doubts remain over the appropriateness of honoring Iran, which does not recognize Israel and backs its foes, faces regular international criticism over human rights and was long denounced by Washington as a member of an "axis of evil".

Well, that prize was whored out at the very beginning of his Presidency. Why would anyone think the significance of an ensuing award with have any import? That’s like going back for sloppy seconds, frankly.

And then he capitulates to Iran when Iraq is a disaster no thanks to him again. So, not only will Iran now take over Iraq, they will also have nukes when they do it which pretty much neutralizes anything sane countries can do about it. Isn’t it amazing how one election can allow evil to rise to such blinding heights? Thank you Democrats, once again you’ve proved anytime a Democrat takes office sht gets ALL effed up!

I’m actually glad. The Nobel Peace Prize has been a BS award for years. Iran winning it would be perfect.

I remember all the fanfare after Madeline and Kim Jong II toasted their success. All the while Kim was building and operating in another facility and ultimately produced his own nuclear bombs.
I fear this will go the same way. But hey, let them pat themselves on the back and seek the approval of corrupt men. This is all they have for a reward
