Texas-based hamburger chain Whataburger is not going to comply with Texas open carry law.
None of the Whataburgers in Albuquerque that I visit disallow open carry. No signs. May be a franchisee, rather than corporate policy. I will continue to visit my two favorites because the staff and management know me and my buddies. They also have had “God Bless America” signs prominently posted in their windows.
Use the Drive Through
As of the end of 2014, Texas has 825,957 license holders. With a population of 26.96 million, that's 3% of the population.
But, as you point out, the real issue is that most people don't bother to get a license. Since Texas is a Shall Issue state, the real issue is that most people have no interest in carrying, whether open or concealed.
$8 ????
Sheesh mine are rarely less than $12 and that is without the drink.
Agreed. When the CEO of Starbucks said he didn’t want the business of anyone who didn’t approve of gay marriage, we gave him what he wanted. We haven’t been in a Starbucks since.
I will never go to one of these places again...
How good is that stuff? Every time the wife and I drive to visit my brother in Texas, we see all these Braum's ice cream signs. We've been tempted but never yet had the time to try it.
If you have diet concerns do not go to Braums. Their ice cream either straight or fancied up is addictive. Beyond delicious.
Given those crazies from Fort Worth, I don’t blame Whataburger.
Of course. I don't like those silly /s tags.
Sorry but this site supports emotional rants especially on topics such as Social Security and Freetrade.
This is not the EmotionFreeRepublic.com. It is FreeRepublic.com.
If I wish to disallow Open Carry in my place of business I should be free to do so, Even if that reason is emotional and hysterical. If your emotional response to my response keeps you out of my place of business so be it.
Much ado about nothing. They don’t want open carry on premises. You can carry concealed as in the past. Actually, open carry doesn’t start until January anyway
See how far an emotional rant for re-institution the Assault Weapons Ban, or requiring registration of firearms gets you.
I don’t deny that businesses should be allowed to be blackmailed into prohibiting concealed carrying - it was a STUPID MOVE by our legislature, but it is the law. My problem is that I’d prefer people defending emotion-based idiocy not be posting here...but he’s been around a while, so I guess I have to tolerate his rants.
Over-reaction. WB has clearly stated CCW welcomed. Some conservatives are beginning to whine as much as liberals. Save your outrage for real issues. Too much crying wolf.
You must get the double meat A-1 burger with the super sized fries.
We always like Blake’s Lottaburger when in New Mexico. Green chili burgers. Yum.
It’s not Forth Worth with all the crazies, it is all those back east in Dallas. Too much eastern liberalism in their blood. But I think Waco is the real reason.
I think you may have nailed it there. I didn't make the connection, but now that you mention it, it makes sense.
I like it very well. The Braum’s story is a good one.
I prefer it to Blue Bell.
They also have small grocery stores in the place and the products are very good.
My letter to Whataburger:
I normally eat at least one meal a week at one of your locations. I will not patronize Whataburger again until you officially cease your attack on gun rights in Texas.
You made a political statement with your announcement on open carry. I will make mine and exclude you from the list of businesses where I spend my hard earned money.
In some ways, I might even agree with you. I conceal carry and would not think to open carry, even after it becomes legal. I can see from where your concerns come. Nevertheless, timing is everything and by being first, loudest, and uniquely Texan, you are trading off your business model to send a political message.
Whether I agree that open carry is right for me or your business, I support it politically. The timing and nature of your statement on open carry goes beyond your private property rights; you’ve sent a political message and one where we disagree.
So, because you unilaterally decided to place politics between us, I have no choice but to respond in kind. Until you remove the politics you placed between us, we are opponents and I can no longer financially support a business who doesn’t see the common sense in keeping politics from ruining our relationship.
