Kenny The Snake Stabler, who led the Oakland Raiders to a Super Bowl title in 1977, died Thursday at the age of 69.
Stabler led Alabama to an 11-0 record in 1966 before turning pro. From 1968-75, the Oakland Raiders played in six AFL/AFC title games and lost each one of them to the eventual Super Bowl champion.

I used to work with a guy who went to high school with him. I guess, Foley High School. He said that Kenny earned his nickname (Snake) for more than football.
I will say he was as accurate a passer as I have ever seen.
Stabler was known for studying his playbook by the light of a nightclub jukebox and for his affinity for female fans[citation needed]. As Hall of Fame guard Gene Upshaw said, “When we were behind in the fourth quarter, with our backs to our end zone, no matter how he had played up to that point, we could look in his eyes and you knew, you knew, he was going to win it for us. That was an amazing feeling.”
__________
Tough guy who played injured. Old school. They ain’t making them like him anymore
Rest in Peace.
I still say the 76 Divisional Playoff game against the Patriots is one of greatest ever played The Snake was unstoppable that day! RIP Snake!
Thank you Ken, when the Oakland Raiders were the Oakland Raiders.
Maybe Maybe not.
Wow he really can pull off a 4th quarter miracle!
Being a KC Chiefs fan, Stabler was easy to “hate” (as in fans of one team disliking another team, not as leftists HATE conservatives,) as were the rest of the Raiders, one of the “dirtiest” teams in NFL history. But most of the games between the two were epic, and there was never any doubt he was an incredibly talented QB, as were the rest of the Raiders.
RIP Snake. Go Chiefs!

Tuscaloosa News now reporting it is an unconfirmed rumor. D’oh!
Thank you for that link!
No cause of death was mentioned for good reason Kenny Stabler is still alive!!!
Distant relative on my mother’s side....lots of Stablers in herAlabama arena.
I requested that this post be deleted.
Same Kenny Stabler and fellow Raider who shut down Lesbian bar with their boozing
The Oak-land Raiduz.
The man would never quit.
Holy Roller!!!
I think the SF Gate article is an early version, saying the Raiduhs lost 6 title games?? Did not the Snake win an SB? Vs. the Vikings. Yes, he did: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Bowl_XI#Starting_lineups That wasn’t mentioned, he was a competitor alright.
Rest in Peace.
