Kenny The Snake Stabler, who led the Oakland Raiders to a Super Bowl title in 1977, died Thursday at the age of 69.
Stabler led Alabama to an 11-0 record in 1966 before turning pro. From 1968-75, the Oakland Raiders played in six AFL/AFC title games and lost each one of them to the eventual Super Bowl champion.

Looks like Kenny just threw the most successful Hail Mary in the history of football!

I agree, the story looks a bit bogus and as I said about the SF Gate story, what story would emphasize losses if it was eulogizing an all-time great. He was with Bum Phillips too in NO I think.

Maybe it’s a false report, but the Snake has practically disappeared from the public since he last did color commentary for Alabama football in 2007.

Stabler and Biletnikoff were my heroes when I was a teenager. I’ve been a Raiders fan since I was 10 when Lamonica was QB. One thing that I liked was that he was a southpaw like me. I always wanted to meet him, maybe in the hereafter. Rest in Peace, Snake.

Stabler reportedly just posted this on his Twitter account:
“But I’m not dead yet.” =)

I met him many times when he played for the Houston Oilers.
He was a regular at Griff's Sports Bar, who was a rabid Oiler fan club.
Griff's Oiler Army would depart the Bar about 45 min before the game in 2-3 charter buses complete with an on-board mini keg. 1 or 2 bagpipers would lead the way into the Astrodome playing the fight song.
After the game Kenny would show up with one or two players,
And have a couple of beers the the fans.
He was a regular guy, and at that time the hope of the Oilers.
Man those were some fun times.
Rest in Peace Kenny... this ones for you !!!

Thanks, I should have figured it out since my Brother lived in Fairhope at the time.
All I remember is he was from Foley.

Preparing to report on an unconfirmed but wide and persistent rumor that former Alabama football player Kenny Stabler had died, tuscaloosanews.com inadvertently and briefly published an incomplete story that we were preparing in the event that the story was confirmed. At this time, it is not confirmed. Unfortunately, other news outlets used social media to share the report. We regret the error and any emotional distress caused to Stablers family, friends and fans.
