Donald Trump says if he's elected president, he'd let undocumented workers who are productive stay in the United States, but if they just sponge off the system and don't contribute ... he'd have them deported. Trump tells TMZ, he'd create a "system of merit," saying people here illegally should have "a road to legal status" if they work hard and contribute to the country.
Trump also says no one really knows how many people are in the U.S. illegally -- he cites different stats that show the figure is somewhere between 11 and 30 million. Trumps says it's unrealistic and inhumane to attempt to deport all of them. Thus, the merit system. He says many undocumented workers are "hardworking people" who deserve a chance to live the American dream.
The candidate was not specific about the criteria for being "productive," but he was specific that people who don't pay their freight over a period of time have no place here.
He also believes criminals and other "bad ones" should be thrown out.

If any other candidate had said this, aside from Cruz, wouldnt they be labeled as surrender monkeys??
You don’t support Cruz. You’ve been supporting Trump
It’s a start. Criminals and public assistance parasites first.
Ha! I see what you did there. ; )
I got news for you. There is not a candidate out there that will deport all 12 million or 16 million or 30 million illegal immigrants.
Trump is for closing the border which is better than we’ve had for the last 30 years and better than many candidates. And he is for selective deportation.
Any candidate that tells you he is going to deport them all, even those that have married American citizens and had children here is lying to you.
Cruz supports Trump on immigration.. where have you been?
You, are FOS.
I support trump bringing this issue front and center.
Put up or shut up.
.
Shamnesty!
The real Donald floats to the top of the cesspool for all to see!
For me it’s to early to tell.
Trump HAS started the conversation about immigration.
He has already forced the hand of several other clowns.
How it all shakes out remains to be seen.
I guess it is too much for you to give him credit for that.
Do I think he is a conservative? No.
Am I glad he has forced the the hand of others? Yes.
However, I totally disagree that "hardworking" illegal aliens should be allowed to stay. Many Americans have been robbed and raped by hardworking illegals. Why should illegal aliens be allowed to get to the head of the line over those who go through legal means? They are criminals, are breaking our laws. I can find no reason why they should be above the law and allowed to break them.
You are so full of it. This site has never supported RINOs. In 2012 it was definitely not supporting Romney, so you think in 2016 it’s going to support Romney-endorsong Romneyite Trump?
The 11 million figure is so far off base, that there’s really no reality to this. What do you peg the number to?
I continue to go back to the 2010 revised census figure of 9 million and consider what another 15 years would have garnered us.
Conservatively that would peg us at about 25 million.
Births and the massive early 2000s illegal immigration numbers causes me to believe 30 is very doable. It also causes me to agree even that number may be vastly understated.
I could easily believe 45 million, but north of there I have a hard time justifying.
Now, could I be wrong? I believe I could be. I just can’t get to 60 million at this point, but if someone has a good reason to say that, I’m willing to look at it.

The Donald doesn’t make wages; he collects profits.
.
Has Cruz said he will deport them all, even those that have married Americans?
You start posting this kinda stuff, perhaps you ought to ping Jim to the thread and ask him what he thinks about Trump.
Are you the assistant webmaster, or donations czar, or sumthin???
Israel built one much more recently and it works great.
That’s the the RIGHT of every other candidate in the race.
He’s shouting over the issue, so no one is talking about the issue, they ate talking about Trump. You fall for reality TV tactics?
No, unfortunately he has not....at least not that I know of. That is why I wrote "so far" I am of the opinion we have much to go in this primary season and am just observing what is happening....time in the end, reveals all.
Trump is destroying Cruz’s chances.
