Donald Trump Unloads on Immigration Critics: ‘The United States Has Become a Dumping Ground’

NEW YORK (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump stood firm Monday on his description of Mexican immigrants as criminals.

The businessman, under fire from critics in and out of his party, issued a lengthy statement refusing to back off comments he made in the speech launching his presidential bid last month. In it, he called Mexican immigrant criminals and rapists, prompting several businesses, including NBC, Univision and Macy’s, to cut ties with Trump.

In his new statement, Trump said “the Mexican government is forcing their most unwanted people into the United States” and claimed that in many cases, they are “criminals, drug dealers, rapists, etc.”

He said later Monday, during a charity golf tournament at one of his courses, that his standing in some polls is proof that many Americans share his views.

“I think the polls are a testament,” said Trump, one of more than a dozen Republicans running for president. “In the old days, they used to use a term, `the silent majority.’ We have the silent majority back, folks.”

Polls this early in the race tend to reflect name recognition more than depth of support for a candidate and few in the GOP regard Trump, a well-known TV figure, as a serious presidential contender despite poll standings that may be good enough to qualify him to be in the first GOP debate. Debate guidelines provide for the top 10 candidates in national polling to participate.

One major brand that has not cut ties with Trump is the New York Yankees. The team’s co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner, who organized the charity golf tournament at Trump’s new course in the Bronx, said the real estate developer is “a loyal friend and I am loyal to my friends.”

You are correct when you say that Mexico is not Cuba.
But you have the refugees reversed.

The Cubans who fled Castro were heavily laced with business people, professionals and intellectuals who would be the prime targets of any bloodthirsty Communist regime. They were running away from forced labor camps or execution at the gentle hands of “Che.”

The vast majority of ILLEGAL Mexican aliens coming here now are walking detritus. They are people with no skills and no wealth who are not running away from anything, they are running *TO* the welfare state.

Oh - they are also heavily laced with MS13 and other varieties of gang bangers who view the US as fertile ground for selling drugs and “organizing.”

And yes - I do know a lot of folks from both groups (Cuban and Mexican.) And the Mexicans I know who are LEGAL immigrants and have real jobs hate the Alien Invasion more than we do.

No thanks, it’s not my business and the farmers around here love them. Crime’s pretty low. I understand California has a whole other level of problems.

maybe “forcing” is not the right word but, “officially encouraging their unwanted people” to go to the US is absolutely correct.

Take a trip to main street Mexico sometime and speak with the business owners - they know what’s going on!

If you don’t report the illegal aliens to law enforcement, the blood of their victims will be on your hands.

Having had my office gasoline bombed, had a soda bottle thrown at my windshield by illegal crossing street, and having my storage shed broken into by illegals, I’m thinking these aren’t exactly high class citizens coming here.

I'll go along with that, if it's true but Trump butchers the language and sounds like a moron.

American politicians in both parties are stampeding all over themselves to pander to Mexico and adopt mass illegal alien amnesty schemes. But while the Mexican government lobbies for more “humane” treatment of illegal border crossers from their country into ours, Mexico remains notoriously restrictionist toward “undesirable” foreigners who break their laws or threaten their security.

Despite widely touted immigration “reforms” adopted in 2011, Mexico still puts Mexico first — as any country that is serious about protecting its sovereignty should and would.

While amnesty advocates and civil liberties zealots in the U.S. decry “police state” tactics against illegal aliens, Mexico fiercely maintains laws against illegal border crossings; “verification visits” to enforce visa conditions; requirements that foreigners produce proof of legal status on demand; and enforcement and cooperation between and among immigration officials and law enforcement authorities at all levels in Mexico. Native-born Mexicans are also empowered to make citizens arrests of illegal aliens and turn them in to authorities.

Mexico’s National Catalog of Foreigners tracks all outside tourists and foreign nationals. A National Population Registry tracks and verifies the identity of every member of the population, who must carry a citizens identity card. Visitors who do not possess proper documents and identification are subject to arrest at any time. And for those seeking permanent residency or naturalization, Mexico requires that they must not be economic burdens on society and must have clean criminal histories. Those seeking to obtain Mexican citizenship must show a birth certificate, provide a bank statement proving economic independence, pass an exam and prove they can provide their own health care.”

Exactly what I said was BS: When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best

Mexico ain't sending them dude. They're coming, although I have a sneaking suspicion they gave that murderer money and sent him back because they didn't want him in Mexico. It's called "bus-therapy" among social workers.
