Not just beholden to, but apparently a part of...
No. Religious liberty is a God given right. He allows us to accept or (stupidly) reject Him.
The First Amendment is supposed to protect that right. This Oregon official apparently disagrees.
Um, I’m going to make a guess who wins this one in the long run...
If you would like more information about what's happening in Oregon, please FReepmail me.
I lost my Oregon list when my computer crashed last year, so please send me your name by FReepmail if you want to be on this list.
My response: Lisa Watson and Cupcake Jones need to be boycotted.
Spread the word, FReepers. We actually have a lot of sway.
“This case is not about a wedding cake or a marriage,” Avakian wrote, according to The Oregonian.
You can say that again Brad.
God that Lisa Watson has an ugly Heart. Now her facebook is filled with rainbow colors and her cupcakes look like poop.
The one good thing is, the money raised before the Gofundme was shutdown is still available, apparently.
The downside, of course, is that 100,000 bucks will go right to the two who sued Melissa and her hubby out of business in the first place. And they’ll still owe another 35 grand.
I’d agree Watson is a hateful person, in any case. Even if she didn’t agree with the folks over at Melissa’s, it’s just plain nastiness to try (and succeed) to derail efforts for like-minded people to help them. What a wench. So much for “love wins”, eh?
I also just don’t see how, as someone else pointed out, the sum awarded isn’t a violation of the 8th Amendment. This family of 7 has been financially destroyed by the settlement. If that is not the definition of “excessive fines”, I do not know what is.
For future reference - if you save your ping lists under your FR profile, they’ll be on the servers and not your pc.
This is a clear violation of the “Free exercise” clause of the first amendment.
Yes, but they are there for everyone to read. And I don’t like that.
If they tried to make me Pay that Extortion Money, I would bring the Cash, dump it on the ground right in Front of them and Set It On Fire.
Or, they would get it in Wheelbarrow’s full of loose Pennies.
The amount of money raised in just a few hours is DISGUSTING! sez Ms. Cupcake Jones.
Now that right there is a very funny money quote.
I’m a-cacklin’ and slappin’ mah thigh raht now.
“We live our four core values every. single. day. Community, Sustainability, Equality, Pride.”
What insipid drivel!
“Community”, but it doesn’t include Christians (or muslims for that matter)
“Equality”, again not for the aforementioned groups.
“Pride”, Pride for what, to brag about sticking a penis in a man’s a**?? And pride, last I recall, is one of the cardinal sins, of course for them now it’s a virtue, just like abortion is a sacrament.
We’ve truly become a very sick society.
Excellent strategy by the Kleins. They ask for a stay. The gays appeal. But they’ve already had their wedding and their cake. So now they’re just demanding $135,000 cash. Which is extortion. Which is a crime. They and their activist co-conspirators can be prosecuted under RICO. And/or countersued in civil court for harassment.
Avakian is the biggest communist on the planet.
Pray America is waking
We’ll talk about it, but can’t imagine we would DO anything.
Giving as good as you get, is now a foreign concept. It isn’t American to do this to a business because of their personal religious conviction, on a matter such as this.
Businesses en masse should be defending this business somehow and make it painful to the state and the fed, probably tax resistance would work. Resistance means to stop cooperating and stop complying with tyrants and religious persecutors. But nobody wants to have a real Tea Party.
