I posted this for the insightful comment made by Caleb Child.
You know, when I talk to most people about the confederate flag, what most people honestly say is the first thing they think about is "The Dukes of Hazzard." Not its historical role, not its implications of racism, but an old TV show.
I know it sounds like a stretch, the sort of thing that sits near a conspiracy theory, but honestly, I feel like taking Dukes of Hazzard off the air is more about trying to avoid putting the confederate flag in a positive light more than anything else. It's not because they think people will be offended by the flag, but that they don't want to let people NOT be offended by the flag.
Seriously, when did the show itself ever try to support racist ideals? When did it ever try to say that slavery should still exist? When did it ever support a white supremacist position?
Truth be told, the show is more of a threat to the idea that people bearing the confederate battle flag are all racist that it is a threat to racial tolerance.
They are offended by the idea that someone would think differently than they do, and in a move that's bigotry at its finest, they try to stop anything that might lead people to consider a different point of view.
This has gone beyond sanity. Leave “The Dukes Of Hazard’’ alone and stop this idiocy about the Confederate Flag.
For as many times as I watched the old reruns, I think I could count on one hand the number of times they showed a top view of the General Lee.
Sandra Fluke? I’d take a ham sandwich over that hose bag anyday! And as far as her over Daisy Duke? Son. they ain’t even in the same universe. Daisy Duke... hubba hubba...
The accent? Booke studied Strom Thurmond at length and based his accent on him.
When he died in 1994, we lost a gifted actor and great linguist.
I was talking to my 18 year old niece today and pointed out that this hatred for the confederate battle flag is all new. It was fine for some 160 odd years and only became an issue when some on the left decided to use it as a political weapon.
Her boyfriend is mixed race and he was there today and seemed to be getting along just fine like he does every other time he is at one of our family events.
FYI, Stetson hat factory was in Philadelphia, of all places. Had a few ancestors who worked there back in the day.
Booke was soooo funny as Boss Hogg I just had to look at him to get a laugh. Add in the accent and the mannerisms, that white suit and hat, cigar-— just hilarious and brilliantly funny too.
My paternal grandfather worked there also.
Small world...cool!
Thankfully I have all seven seasons of the Dukes on DVD. Those will only be pried from my cold, dead hands.
Saw one in my neighborhood today.
And the family who live in the house are mixed race.
A progressive wouldn’t be able to comprehend that.
The man, Obama, has done more to divide this country than anyone else in my memory. What is his end game?
Liberals have jumped the shark by calling for a ban of the Confederate flag. This is nothing more than cultural Marxism of political correctness that the Left is trying to impose on everyone. If they don't like the flag, fine. But leave the rest of us alone and stop trying to ban this flag to satisfy their "phony" agenda. It is part of our culture in the south.
Not making excuses for them, but I wonder if it wasn’t going to get the ax anyway. There was a story on here recently about TV Land “re-branding for a younger audience.”
Then they made it political when they didn’t have to.
Big mistake.
The American and global elite HATE the culture of the south. It’s a problem because the are too attached to Christ, American-American history, identity and are unique with their own clothing, hobbies of hunting and fishing, talent, music and politically incorrect entertainment. Southerners have not fully integrated with the elite’s humanism and socialism. They reject Northern elitist who think they are superior like Blommers and Christie. They noting but pure racist against Southerners and I think, would like another civil war...by the fetishist or Maoist means. They resent the South keeping them out of power for a couple of decades.
