ISIS “caliph” Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi told followers of his terror group that destroying Egypt’s national monuments, such as the pyramids and the sphinx, is a “religious duty” that must be carried out by those who worship Islam, as idolatry is strictly banned in the religion, according to reports.

I think Zawi Hawass should re-think his hatred of Israel. They might be the only ones who could save his precious antiquities (and him, too!) by being the only ones willing to defeat ISIS.

Of course the fact that these world heritage sites have nothing to do with idolatry is irrelevant.

Serious Islamists believe that graves should be unmarked, or only minimally marked, so a giant tomb like a pyramid would be forbidden.

I read somewhere that the Great Pyramid took 20+/- years to build, using some 20 million stones, according to the records extant.

The Egyptians would have had to set a stone into place every 7 seconds to complete it in that time.

That task would be daunting today with our equipment, so these guys should be busy for a while.
