It’s bad enough that this beautiful young woman had her life taken from her Wednesday night, just snubbed out in what is being called a random shooting. But what make this worse is that it was done by an illegal from Mexico who had been deported at least five times and had a lengthy criminal record.

Because of the government “catch and release” of dangerous felons, I see one good possible outcome.
Many years ago, in an unnamed city, likely by coincidence, its police department had four police brutality complaints in two months. It didn’t matter that the complaints were being made by repeat offenders and violent troublemakers, the city council decided to “crack down on police brutality.”
Typically, police in such situations back off, and watch the crime rate jump, but in this case, the police took a novel approach.
The city had a biker gang. Tough customers, they just defended their territory from other gangs, but were always very careful to not molest honest citizens, even when breaking the law. Every now and then the police would harass them, just on general principles.
The police discreetly approached the gang with an offer: we will leave you alone, if, when an officer needs a little muscle, he can call one of you guys to apply it. The gang accepted the deal.
Soon the word got out among those prone to mischief, that this city was not a good place to visit and make trouble. And if you saw a cop using a pay phone, run, do not walk, out of town.
I mention this because if the federal government catches and releases dangerous felons, then it is up to the police and the citizenry to stop them to eliminate the threat.
Sometimes this is called vigilantism, but it exists solely because the federals are not doing their job, or worse, are taking the side of the criminals against the public.
