Authorities today released the identities of three people killed in two separate shootings just hours apart and on opposite ends of town Wednesday night.
In the first shooting, 15-year-old Shamar Polk was shot to death at a Pinson Valley Parkway gas station, according to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.
Police said the shooting happened after he and his friends were approaching customers at the Jet Pep with the intention of carjacking a vehicle

The last time I drove through Alabama, I saw a billboard at the state line with an illustration of a hooded Klansman astride a rearing white horse. In huge letters it said, “You’re in Klan country!” Farther on, in Birmingham there was a billboard saying, “Kan the Kennedy Klan.” This was in 1970, though, when it was safe to walk the streets at night.
All that for a free car wash.
The biggest threat to America and freedom has been the consolidation of all media into like minded hands.
Instead of the media speaking with many independent voices, cultures, ideas, and beliefs, it too often speaks with a uni-voice of the same politically correct police. That was the same method used to hijack the minds of the old USSR and as a means to stifle dissent and give the Communist Party inroads.
Political Correctness is an evil deceptive philosophy intended to muzzle free thinking and truth. “LEAN-IN” to those pushing it and put a stop to this fascism.
He wont be missed again. He was hit and no one will aim at him again.
Stupie kid! shoulda shot the driver first!
That Tweet makes it sound like the world is better place without young Master Polk in it.
Teen is an obsolete word for Negro children from 9 to near 40. It has been overused and now identifies the named ones as Negroes instantly so other words are being tried out. Something else will soon replace "teen." "Euph" would be best, I think.
Hoover, Vestavia Hills, some parts of Irondale, Trussville, Gardendale and points north are ok. I carry when I go into Birmingham proper at night.
Even worse: They don’t know the difference between they’re and their.
A Kardashian, I bet.
The problem with calling such subhumans animals is that it really libels many very good a useful animals, like my two wonderful dogs and one cat and the nice black snakes in my yard that keep the vermin down. Any of those is better and safer to live with than the decedent here and his ilk.
GOOD, One less asshole on the street.
Yes, the guy in the car wash, that’s who I’m remembering. He was here working and his wife was flying in to Bham to see him while he was here on a job and he was killed right before her plane landed.
The gangs have been hitting up Hoover and Vestavia Hills for armed robberies pretty regular this summer.
Just when he’d started to turn his life around, send money to his several ex’s for the kids and going to night school. Sad.

Doesn’t look pudgy enough.
I’d agree. Nothing happens unless we start making ourselves heard. Often and sometimes loudly.
