A technician died from injuries sustained while working on a robot at Volkswagen's factory in Kessel, Germany, according to media reports.
The reports indicated that two men, who worked for an outside contractor, were installing the robot when the mechanism struck one of them in the chest and pressed him against a metal plate.
The 21-year-old man, who was working within the metal safety cage confining the robot, later died from the accident.
His co-worker was outside the metal cage and unharmed. Prosecutors are investigating the incident.
Volkswagen officials said that the robot did not have a technical defect and that it was not one of the company's new lightweight robots that aid workers on production lines.
The robot has been arrested and will stand trial.
Well Google, I mean Skynet has been active a while now so...
Could the movie “I Robot” be coming true???
So they knew that this robot was dangerous enough that they had to keep him in a cage?
That's what I was thinking. Yikes! We're all gonna die!!! Well, someday, anyhow.
Danger Will Robinson...
“Volkswagen officials said that the robot did not have a technical defect”
Cue the Pee Wee Herman defense.
Add to my list of what I don’t want to be when I grow up....Robot Repairman.
This was a white robot or one of color?
We need to know for the potential riots to take other people’s stuff.
Somebody forgot to program in Asimov’s Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.

As HAL said, it’s always attributable to human error.

I for one welcome our new robot overlords!
I will round up lots of libs to toil in their silicon mines.
Well, you recall when Robby made all that whiskey for Earl Holliman? It’s a wonder he didn’t drink hisself to death!
I'd like to hear the robots side on this before passing judgment. Was he provoked? Had he been working long hours without a break? Perhaps he was low on oil or hydraulic fluid.
Seems there may be more to this story then what we have here.
I saw a coworker get smacked by a paint robot years ago. He gout a couple of broken ribs out of it. We were in the paint cage doing some other work and he stepped into the bot’s operating window as it swung around to start painting the next part.
I guess Asimov’s rules didn’t count on operator carelessness.
The robot knew the guy had a confederate flag hanging in his apartment in Kessel.
