The national debate over the Confederate flag has now turned toward Scarlett OHara.
New York Post film critic Lou Lumenick said Wednesday that Americans should think about relegating the 1939 classic Gone with Wind to a museum.
If the Confederate flag is finally going to be consigned to museums as an ugly symbol of racism, what about the beloved film offering the most iconic glimpse of that flag in American culture? Mr. Lumenick asked. Im talking, of course, about Gone with the Wind, which won a then-record eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture of 1939, and still ranks as the all-time North American box-office champ with $1.6 billion worth of tickets sold here when adjusted for inflation.
The movie, which starred Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh, sends the wrong cultural message because it stands for many of the same things as the Confederate flag waving before the movies intermission, Mr. Lumenick said.

“The Birth of a Nation” and “Amos ‘n Andy” aren’t even allowed in museums, are they?
Pretty much. Mister Lou is an idiot.
NY Film critcs should swing from street lights.
Ban ALL movies without a sufficient number of minority and LBQTXYZLMOP actors in Staring roles!
Dialogue must be in either Spanish or Ebonics, with English subtitles.
No popcorn if you laugh at the wrong times!

“Just wait til the next big Terrorist attack...”
Not only will the Confederate flag be a non issue, but Christianity will be back in vogue also.
This critic is a total idiot. There, I said it.
mass insanity
might be those chemical contrails or something they’ve tossed into the water supply or?
This is coming from under achievers who skipped their history classes and cheated on the final exam. They have no clue about the historical significance of the Confederate Flag, the Civil War and the brave souls who sacrificed all to fight that war.
If someone were to invent a History Flag, the sight of it would send the politically correct into seizures. They would like it if they could dumb America down to their weak-mindedness.
AWESOME! I got the film off Amazon a year or so ago and have not watched it yet. That is a good one for a nasty winter afternoon.
Birth of a Nation is better

Are you saying you have never seen the movie?

“History provides us with many, many more examples, yet.somehow, black slavery in there United State gets all this attention.”
That’s because it gets more traction, attention and money here. America had a fraction of the African slaves brought to the western hemisphere (Brazil actually had the most), but because we are a more advanced, and a richer country than Brazil it’s not worth the race pimps’ time and effort to make a stink in Brazil.
Yep,you were.
I find it astonishing what IS allowed in movies and on TV today and they want to toss GWTW aside.
.
Will ‘Bamboozled’ be banned as well??
GWTW has a lot of good quotes. Maybe not as many as “True Grit” or “It’s A M, M, M, M, World, but few movies do.
I was just thinking yesterday that I am lucky to have a copy of Gone With the Wind to view, and that I need to get another copy of the book before it is burned.
My nominee for most quotable lines is ‘The Outlaw Josey Wales’. I cannot watch that movie enough.
You just mentioned another pair of my favorite films, haven’t watched that one in a couple of years.
Rooster Cogburn: When’s the last time you saw Ned Pepper?
Emmett Quincy: I don’t remember any Ned Pepper.
Rooster Cogburn: Short feisty fella, nervous and quick, got a messed-up lower lip.
Emmett Quincy: That don’t bring nobody to mind. A funny lip?
Rooster Cogburn: Wasn’t always like that, I shot him in it.
Emmett Quincy: In the lower lip? What was you aiming at?
Rooster Cogburn: His upper lip.
Sylvester Marcus: [into a phone] Mama, who’s with you? Where are you talking to me... Where are you?
Mrs. Marcus: [into the phone] I’m with this truck driver at Peterson’s garage in a place called Plaster City. And will you just shut up a minute so I can tell you what happened!
Sylvester Marcus: Now listen, Mommy, you listen to me close. You stay right there, because I’m coming, Mom. I’m coming to get you right now, Mom.
Mrs. Marcus: Will you SHUT UP AND LISTEN?
Sylvester Marcus: Mama, it’s all right. Everything’s gonna be all right, Mama. Your baby’s coming to get ya. You just sit there. Sit there, relax, take it easy.
Mrs. Marcus: [On the phone and the camera’s still on Sylvester] Sylvester...
Sylvester Marcus: I’m coming to get you, Mom!
Mrs. Marcus: [On the phone and the camera’s still on Sylvester] ... shut up and let me talk...
Sylvester Marcus: [At the same time, while Mrs. Marcus is speaking] Everything is gonna be all right!
[Hangs up]
Lennie Pike: Well?
Mrs. Marcus: So he’s coming here. And I’m not to worry about a thing, because “everything is going to be all right!”
Mrs. Marcus: [to Emmeline] Exactly like your father: a big, stupid, muscle-headed moron!

No, I have seen it many times, used to be a yearly ritual around the compound, when TMC showed it in the fall. I just haven’t watched the copy I own yet.
