Helium leaking from massive earthquake fault under Los Angeles reveals giant rift
Daily Mail ^ | 06/30/15 | Mark Prigg

A huge fault in the Earth's crust near Los Angeles is leaking helium, researchers have found.

They say the unexpected find sheds new light on the Newport-Inglewood Fault Zone in the Los Angeles Basin.

It reveals the fault is far deeper than previously thought, and a quake would be far more devastating.

It follows a report from the U.S. Geological Survey has warned the risk of 'the big one' hitting California has increased dramatically.

Are the residents of LA now speaking in an octave above their normal voice?

Which is already in the metrosexual range.

Just out of curiosity, and I’m sure there are some science-wiz guys out there...let’s say more helium was released. Impact on climate, weather, cancer-causing agents, or furry felines falling over?

Newport Inglewood fault caused the 1933 Long Beach earthquake.

Could some of the assclowns in hollyweird float away never to be seen or heard from again? Please. On a more serious note, this is most likely caused by frickin’ frackin’ or global climate discombobulation or maybe the drought. :>} The real issue in h’wood is ben and what’s her name splitting up. Now THAT’s important news. Don’t worry about all the isis/isil/is electronic traffic concerning a possible something for the 4th of July. Yeah, I’m feelin’ snarky this morning.

Helium rises and is lost into space. It’s one of the few resources that we will probably run out of that can’t be replaced.

Not sure, but I do know it’s a large amount of helium coming out of the ground that usually sends the animals running ahead of time.

Although in a big city there is not much natural life.

“... a report from the U.S. Geological Survey has warned the risk of ‘the big one’ hitting California has increased dramatically.”

Illogical. The risk did not increase because of the discovery, only the perception of risk increased. The risk was exactly the same prior to the discovery as it was after.

Actually, as long as alpha-particle radioactive decay keeps happening, there will keep being new Helium produced by the Earth. It’s all a question of whether or not we can practically obtain the natural gas from the reserves, which we process and separate the Helium from.

That was a big one. But, a huge number of deaths were attributed to the large number of brick building that collapsed.

Today, all brick buildings must be reinforced.

My house suffered the most damage in an earthquake from the Whittier fault. [many years ago]

Helium is mostly produced by radioactive alpha decay. Add 2 electrons to an alpha particle and you have helium.
