Ted Cruz has some unsolicited advice for the states not specifically named in last weeks Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage: Ignore it.
Those who are not parties to the suit are not bound by it, the Texas Republican told NPR News Steve Inskeep in an interview published on Monday. Since only suits against the states of Ohio, Tennessee, Michigan and Kentucky were specifically considered in the Supreme Courts Obergefell v. Hodges decision, which was handed down last Friday, Cruz a former Supreme Court clerk believes that other states with gay marriage bans need not comply, absent a judicial order.
[O]n a great many issues, others have largely acquiesced, even if they were not parties to the case, the 2016 presidential contender added, but theres no legal obligation to acquiesce to anything other than a court judgement.
While Cruzs statement may be technically true, federal district and circuit courts are obligated to follow the Supreme Courts precedent and overrule all other states same-sex marriage bans as unconstitutional.
The Texas senator then went on to suggest that Republicans who have called for following the courts decision are members of a Washington cartel and are lying when they say they do not support same-sex marriage.
[Republican Party leaders] agree with the rulings from last week, both the Obamacare ruling and the marriage ruling, Cruz said. [T]he biggest divide we have politically is not between Republicans and Democrats. Its between career politicians in both parties and the American people.

Cruz made sure it had a chance to be voted on, instead of killing it.
Thanks, gave me a chance to post my tagline yet again.
I must admit I liked Huckabee saying that he would put a nativity scene on the lawn of the White house.
Personally I think Cruz is inspiring some of the other candidates to nut up a bit.
And if the Court continues to uphold gay marriage, and deny the people the right of self-government, the States should just DISOBEY.
The real question is: Why are so many people “getting it” that the Supreme Court does NOT have the last word, when the issue is gay marriage, while hardly anyone has understood that the Supreme Court can and must be disobeyed when it claims to “legalize” abortion.
and I think being more than just “vocal” against same sex marriage is going to help Sen Ted Cruz get the nomination..
I don’t want a roll over play dead suck up for POTUS..
I want a man...a statesman...a leader..
You can vote for Lindsey Graham if you want to ..
States can and should forego appeals to any federal court with regards to any and all socio-economic legal issues. Ignore them as the irrelevant and illegal entities that they have become.
0bumass would find a way to punish.
He voted against TPP.
.
Cruz or Lose!

I can vote for anybody on the ticket that I want to.
If you think these statements are going to help Ted. Good for you. But I would caution you against confusing what will probably happen with what you want to happen.
Like it or not this is more than likely going to make it difficult for Ted to expand his base very much.
My mistake, no vote yet, but he said he would vote against it.
“Are you saying the quotes they attribute to him are a lie? “
I am saying that I didn’t see him say that the states should ignore it. If you can show me where he said that I would appreciate it.
This position will keep him from picking up a single swing state.

You don’t know how they people in those so called “swing states” feel about SSM..
While they may elect liberals for Gov and may be pro-abortion, they may be sickened by the thought that homosexuality is now considered equal to their own legal relationship with their opposite sex spouse..
there are still a lot of semi-decent folk in those states..
Just because they think abortion is OK because though its not for them its OK if other women kill their babies..
I think you’ll find they draw the line at sanctioning the unrighteousness of sodomy..
why don’t you ask them ???
.
You must be kidding.
He is on the way to the biggest victory ever on this.
queers are less than 1% of the population.

Where’s he polling at now? About 6th?
He’s behind Trump in a couple of states.
You’re right. Biggest landslide ever. I’m sure he’ll carry California and New York lol.
.
snarkybob is a concern troll.
Ignore him!
.
He says so right here. Those who are not parties to the suit are not bound by it,
And here.
[O]n a great many issues, others have largely acquiesced, even if they were not parties to the case, the 2016 presidential contender added, but theres no legal obligation to acquiesce to anything other than a court judgement.
I take it to mean that there is no court order directing all of the states to comply. The existing ruling is only binding on the parties actually litigating.
Of course it is obvious that the minute someone sues another state for going against this decision, it will trigger a lawsuit that will eventually have to be settled, but I think that is the whole point.
Don't roll over. Don't make it easy. Cause them trouble and defy them at every turn.
A man stood up..
what’s so frightening about him for you ???
A man sticks to his principles..
and that disqualifies him from being the leader of our nation ???
A man displays courage and integrity..
and youre not brave enough to believe he could go all the way ???
The rainbow house has been not enforcing certain immigration laws for years. It the president ignores certain laws he doesn't like, why shouldn't his subjects?
I think this is going to mobilize evangelical Christians. Despite all the media propaganda, there is a majority that supports traditional marriage, across all demographics.
TPP hasn’t been completed or voted on. Ted voted against TPA when it came back to the Senate.
