Why Gun Manufacturers are in Serious Financial Trouble (a boom is always followed by a bust)
Huff and Puff Post ^ | June 28, 2015 | http://www.huffingtonpost.com/john-a-tures/why-gun-manufacturers-are_b_7595246.html

If gun sales are supposedly "red hot," why are gun manufacturers struggling, even filing for bankruptcy? The answers include a gun glut and long-term trends in gun ownership in America.

There's a continuous media mantra that gun sales are going through the roof. Well, they may have had a little boomlet after the 2012 Newtown shootings. But with Colt filing for bankruptcy, and other gun manufacturers reporting huge declines in sales and falling stock, it's clear that Americans aren't going as gun crazy as people think.

On June 15, Political Scientist Robert Spitzer of SUNY Cortland wrote the column "Why assault rifle sales are booming." It wasn't a pro-gun essay. He used arguments such as fears of Obama, the temptation of "forbidden fruit" and even the old Freudian "male sexuality" pleasure of firing a gun.

Colt and S&W have struggled because they began to depend on the name instead of quality. I own multiple examples of each and almost every piece I've had has some kind of problem with it. It takes perseverance and determination to correct it.

To my mind it is because they operate in blue states.

Colt has been bought and sold and Chapter Elevened so many times that it’s not really Colt anymore. It’s just a trademark.

Colt’s bankruptcy filing is due to poor management and failure to provide handguns that the shooting public wanted. Colt Python, Detective Special, etc.
But, losing the big government rifle contract nailed them to the wall.

I have $3000 worth of their blue state output. A 1911 commemorative reissue, a Defender and a New Agent.

The 1911 ended up with the barrel bushing being frozen by rust to the barrel, the Defender and New Agent had extractors with ZERO ounces of tension! They spit cases in your face.

Each one a Thousand Dollar pistol.

The HuffPo has no friggin' clue as to why Colt filed and it had nothing to do with average American's gun buying habits.

You’re right. They don’t have the masters that made Pythons anymore. You’d likely get some Brazilian knockoff with a Colt name if they license it.

A few internal ISIS attacks and gun sales will go up again.

One thing for certain is that most firearms are concentrated in hands of right wing American, with far left gun ownership sucking rocks.

They should offer a free confederate flag with every purchase.

They are completely nuts. Ruger and Smith & Wesson's stock prices are much higher than they were on Obama's inauguration day in 2009.

Their argument runs something like, "Chrysler and GM went bankrupt, so people are going to stop buying cars", and "Oh, and people will stop buying Hondas, Toyotas and BMWs, too. Just because."

Colt is bankrupt because it is badly managed. The Colt brand should live on, under new management. (Maybe they'll even bring back the Python!)

See NICS background checks, too. The home building industry would be "high-fiving" themselves with performance like this.

Since this is a huffypo blog, it is full of misinformation and twisted “fact;” but, mostly fringe lunatic liberal wishful thinking. Let the “professor” who wrote this be blissful in his suppositions.
